S-Type 2001 gearbox replacement
Hi all, the gearbox on my S-type 2001 is kaput, and because i live on a small island, it is beyond the remit of my mechanic to hunt around for a replacement, so it falls to me to get hold of one from abroad.
Mine is a 2001 S-type v6 sport 3.0 automatic petrol model, and apart from that, all i know about this or indeed any other car is that they have wheels and go vrooom!
So I have a question or two, such as, is there any relevance with regards to compatibility regarding gearboxes plucked from an X202 model? Mine is I think by default an X200. Also would ask if the year would have any bearing, as one seller lists a gearbox that is supposedly compatible with my car, as well as models right up to 2007, and would a listing stating 2.5 litres make any difference assuming the other info tallies with my car specs?
Basically, If I just ensure that any advertised gearbox conforms with the rudimentary info provided in the second line, such info being what most sellers seem to provide, will that be all i need to rely upon to ensure compatiblity, meaning that i won't therefore need to worry about reg, chassis or serial numbers?
These questions may seem well daft but it's all fairly daunting to an uninitiate like me, so thanks for your patience and any help!

Welcome to the forum Richard,
The transmission changed with the facelift model 2002.5 or 2003 model year depending on location
Your vehicle has a Ford 5R55N transmission which was used in some other Ford models, I'm not sure if you can take a box from one of these others and directly transplant it to the Jag.
Hopefully someone does.
Good luck with the search.

Thanks Norri, I tried a search for a 5R55N but not much came up apart from reconditioned ones for a couple of grand. I'm thinking along the lines of the plethora of used transmissions on ebay etc that i might instead pick up for a couple of hundred; I can't afford to get the wrong one given the shipping costs involved.
