S type 3.0 v6 performance issues RESOLVED
Hey all!
I recently purchased a 2002 s-type with the 3.0 v6. The car is very smooth and feels solid but I'm having a problem with acceleration.
From a stop it accelerates fairly well, feels abit underpoweres though. But as soon as it gets to 3500,4000rpm it just hits a brick wall and will barely accelerate more. It will go from 4000rpm all the way up to 6500rpm VERY slowly. This happens in any gear.
Other than that the engine is super smooth and quiet, the gearbox shifts beautifully smooth.
Any ideas what it could be? The CEL is on but I have no means to check codes just yet.

This is a huge clue. The computer is trying to get your attention to say something isn't right.
Where are you located? Does location SE mean Sweden? Not sure what to tell you there, but here in the Colonies most auto parts stores will read out codes for free.
However you retrieve the codes, make sure you record the actual 5 digit identifier, such as P0300. From there, plug that code into the chart here to learn what it means. Post a reply and we can help you:

Don't rely on any definition given by a scanner or code reader. Those are often generic definitions that do not match Jaguar terminology, and can send you down the wrong path.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

I forgot to add, it's an automatic transmission.
I just wondered if anyone knew anything I could be checking while I wait.
Hoping the transmission isnt gona blow.. Can't be that though because it happen in every gear at the same rpm range!

Here's a quick search for basic code readers at Amazon Sweden:
https://www.amazon.se/s?k=obd+code+r...f=nb_sb_noss_1
I'm sure you could find something similar at any local auto parts store. You may want to spend a little more for a scanner instead of just a code reader. A scanner is more versatile, and can read live data in addition to simple fault codes. I have a Bluetooth doohickey that uses my phone as the scanner display. For any vehicle built in the last 25 years, you're going to want some means to retrieve the fault codes. It's just a basic tool you should have, like a set of wrenches, sockets, multimeter, etc.

Maybe check your wallet, as it's all just expensive guesswork without retrieving the codes.

I work on my own cars, it's a hobby for me. I don't appreciate your rudeness.
What's the point in forums when all you get told is to check the codes? I literally said that isn't something I can do Right Now, I also explained Why.

See the PDF of codes. It could be any of the causes given.
Anything else would just be a guess.

Usually someone knows something about symptoms that are explained, usually how it is when you go to see the doctor. Lol
Again, I'm not being rude. Apologies if you think so.

I think if your scanners won't connect it's unlikely the garage will be able to either. I'd start by checking out the OBD port connections, do you have the wiring diagrams?
If not you can find them here JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
I don't recall anyone having the symptoms you describe, I'd say we need to determine if it's the transmission or the engine first.

I don't have any wiring diagrams, so thanks for that! 😁
I have a Bluetooth obd with the phone app that said failed to connect to obd2, I have an older wifi one that says the same.. I also have a laptop with universal obd2 software that will not connect. When I say won't connect, it establishes a connection to the car but it will not read anything, usually comes up with "could not connect to ECU or could not read ECU"

How many kilometres/miles are on the vehicle? What type of fuel is being used? Do you have a service history of the vehicle?
Based solely on your description, and without the benefit of knowing the stored DTCs, one could guess there are issues with coil units misfiring, or perhaps not enough fuel pressure.

Well **** hit the fan this morning, the car went crazy and almost caused me to crash!
It accelerated by its self, then to totally lost power (foot all the way down and nothing was happening revs at around 2000rpm) I then pressed the brake pedal at a junction and almost no brakes at all! I had to press the pedal as hard as I could to stop. Revs bouncing between 1000 and 1500rpm then the battery light came on.
