S type 3.0 v6 performance issues RESOLVED

Hi Oliver
At a guess it might be the throttle position sensor. The fact that it now has accelerated erratically might mean it is this. But I have no first hand knowledge.
There is information here on a 2000 S Type and a code P1576. When you get your code reader sorted out. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...97/#post376328

Well **** hit the fan this morning, the car went crazy and almost caused me to crash!
It accelerated by its self, then to totally lost power (foot all the way down and nothing was happening revs at around 2000rpm) I then pressed the brake pedal at a junction and almost no brakes at all! I had to press the pedal as hard as I could to stop. Revs bouncing between 1000 and 1500rpm then the battery light came on.

I'm having a dispute with a car company I bought it from. They don't want to take it back.

If you keep the car - order an iCarsoft 930 code reader from eBay. They make a Jag one that can speak to the modules and actually get codes that cheap generic readers can’t get. Not expensive.
Regarding erratic acceleration I’d be looking at the throttle body or TPS or your coils. Regarding hard brakes check the vacuum line coming off the servo.
Keep at it mate! 👍

While I'm here, there is another thing, there's a constant clicking sound coming from the ABS pump and when I press the brake pedal it gets louder and I can feel the pedal pulsing along with the click. Had a quick Google search but haven't found anything. Guess it's another one for the obd reader? Lol 😁

For what it’s worth, I’ve recently bought two early model 3.0 S-types, both running rough with poor acceleration and no power.
I replaced coils, plenum gaskets, IMT o-rings, lower breather elbow, cleaned the fuel injectors, new spark plugs, fuel filter. Both now run beautifully with fuel trims close to zero.
One needed a replacement throttle body and a used one did the trick, the other needed a new fuel pump because it had sat in a garage for years.
Maybe I just got lucky?!
The iCarsoft 930 definitely helped identifying problems.
Good luck!

I uploaded a video just to give you an idea of what's happening, maybe I explained bad lol. This happens in any gear, and only under full throttle or if you take get the revs over 4.5k anything under that is fine. I have ordered an obd scanner but I just like to be interactive 😁 video link below. P.S. yes it's pretty high milage but the car is in fantastic shape. Cosmetically lol actually drives really tight and smooth too.

If DTC P0430 is present, the catalyst is not working correctly and was probably damaged by misfire(s) on that cylinder bank. In my experience, replacing the catalytic converter on the respective bank is the only way to eliminate P0420 or P0430.
When the condition you describe is occurring, does the MIL flash?

Kinda strange, it had just passed the emissions test when I bought it.. Which was a few days ago.

Well now I'm confused. I cleared the engine light (don't ask why I knew it wouldn't fix anything lol) and after driving around for about 2 hours the car is still the same but the engine light hasn't returned!?
Got a graph of the 02 sensor readings here if this makes sense to anyone lol

Hey guys last update on this thread, the car is now fixed. The problem was the catalytic converter on the left bank.
I punched out all the inside of the cat, put it back and now the car runs amazingly well. Very happy. no check engine light either 🤣 i have ordered a replacement cat.
Hopefully this thread can be useful if anyone ever gets any symptoms I had.
Thanks to all of you for the help, had a good time interacting with you guys.
Take care all, I'll probably be back soon 😂
