2000 S-Type over heating nightmare
I appreciate your humor. Indeed, I should have called you.
I'm in so deep. Now it's transmission problems.
Never had any before they touched my car!
When they replaced the head and tensioners, did they have to remove the trim and disconnect the shifter from the transmission ? The reason I ask, is because the trim around the floor shift is cracked and the shift will not move out of park?
I never had a problem moving the shift out of park and never noticed the 2 cracks in the trim! S
Thanks,
Elizabeth Enright

$5500.00 windows
Unfortunately, NO!
They windows failed 10 years ago. Write it off to ignorance.
Now, for the good news. Got my car back on Friday. Runs like a dream. So happy not to be driving the 1997 Suburban. Felt like a ship. Had the Jag up to 85mph without even realizing it. Better keep my eye on the speedometer!

Stuck in park
Jaguar towed the car back once again to the dealership. They replaced the cable. Car running great, finally!

I'm glad your happy - I hope you'll be able to squeeze as many miles out of her as you can... as far as better design... these MY vehicles have many, many faults - some of which you haven't come across yet - that take $$$ or extensive DIY experience to tackle.
I'm sure you know by now you'll never recoup any of the $$$ you have put into the car - even at 34K miles.
Take it from someone that has over 225K miles currently (I scored my Jag dirt cheap though and DIY just about everything I can)
I would advise you find a good local mechanic that specializes in Jaguars (check your regional section of the forum) - good luck.

Not to sound like I'm piling on here, but the point cannot be stated emphatically enough - find a trustworthy indy shop and rid yourself of the current parasitic operation that will suck every last penny from your bank account if you are willing to allow them to (which you apparently are)....

2000 S-Type 4.0
I just looked at photos of your car, gorgeous just like mine!
I rather doubt I'll ever reach the 200,000 mile mark. Most certainly realize I'll never recoup the costs of these or any future repairs. Never plan on selling her anyway. Will just enjoy her for as long as I can.

We seem to get distracted from the topic of this particular thread, which is “S-Type 4.0 overheating”.
I still have it unsolved and I am not alone facing that mysterious problem. As 2000 S type V8 become older more and more people complaining about it, but nobody found a root cause yet.
Advise for those who just started to experience temperature hike 4-6 min from the start of driving: you do not need to get scared and stop driving your car. When you hear the sound of cooling fan started or you see temperature gage needle moving to the right, just switch the climate control ON and in 20 seconds temperature will go back to normal. At summer time you may also need to bring climate control target temperature to HI for a brief moment to start coolant recirculation through the heater core. Those actions will fix the problem for the day of driving, or at least till the next start of the engine. I am using this trick for over two years, unfortunately.
If anybody got it fixed and is confident on what was the root cause of the problem please take time to let the rest of us, struggling victims of Jaguar good look, know what to do. It would be greatly appreciated.

ElizabethE,
Keep in mind that blown head gaskets and warped heads are often caused by a low coolant situation. Check your coolant reservoir tank level at least weekly. It could be the most important 15 seconds you'll ever spend with your car....
