Default s type auto gearbox

hello everyone i'm new to this forum but i could do with some help as i have a problem with my auto box, it's an s type 3 litre se v reg 2000 the problem i am having is that it's lumpy & jerky getting into reverse warm or cold but cold is a bit easier whilst the revs are higher. also under normal driving conditions & around town car is fine & gets all gears but get her on open road & boot her up a bit & the gearbox fault light comes on and then i cant get into top gear unless i reach about 4-5000 revs. so i pull over turn off engine wait a minute or two and restart, warning light goes out & i continue on my way until it does it again & then i repeat process. noticed also whilst in drive & stationary in traffic with foot on brake or hand brake on there is a funny noise from gearbox kind of like a low growling noise is best way i can describe it, my mechanic has changed transmission fluid only recently & refilled with jaguar recommended fluid also new filter & cleaned off the magnet but still the fault persists.the diagnostics reading is giving four fault codes po734,po735,po745,po795. my mechanic has since drained fluid & checked that he hadn't disturbed any wiring close to filter as someone had told him that this can happen especially if the filter is a bit tight coming undone. he refilled gearbox but the problem is still there. will i have to have a full rebuild or is it simpler than that? i was reading about a spring that can break and how it affects oil pressure in box hope that's all it is, sorry to go on a bit but i thought it best to give as much info as possible, please can anybody help
kind regards
glynn.

This seems a bit obvious but did your mechanic read up on what the codes mean (oh surely he did!) and then what was his take? Is he competent with transmissions, particularly your kind?

My feeling is the car should not be driven with a scary noise like that but maybe others will know better.

BTW, someone with the right diag kit and who knows how can exercise the individual autobox innards to figure out what's wrong. Your guy?

Check the FAQs for the codes PDF if you haven't already.

Your car uses the quite common Ford 5R55N box.

hi jagv8 thank's for your input, mechanic says first 2 codes are to do with oil pressure last 2 are to do with solonoids & no he isn't experienced on auto boxes says i will have to send it to another garage for a proper diagnostics but he is a good mechanic on all other areas, auto boxes i suppose are a specialised area of expertise

You've enough posts to read the codes PDF yourself and see what it says - highly recommended
