S Type battery drain
I am having problems with the battery going flat overnight. The battery is new.the same time have started getting random alarms on the dash ie. hand brake fault, apply foot brake and hand brake to mention 2. Also the windscreen wipers do not return to the bottom of the screen when turned off or in rest position, don't know if this is related.
Has anybody had a similar problem and how was it put right ?
Thanks.

Test each indiviual battery cell - odds are you could have 1 or 2 "flat" or bad cells throwing the battery off - what you describe sounds like a failing battery - also, check the manufacturer date code on the battery as well... Be sure to post your vehicle information in your signature line and if you haven't done so already - please post a brief intro in the new member section.

iv had the same fault on my 2004 diesel s type my battery and alternator has been tested told both ok .iv tested with a amp meter for a drain and found a drain of 0.9amp iv no idea if this is normal. my car will run ok for about 2 week then with no warning one day flat with no warning ie slow startin so my question is...... is there a commom fault ie wiper motor/alarm...... that can cause this 0.9amp drain

Hi,
The chart attached will tell you what you should be getting when the car is "asleep".
The usual suspects,
When you remove the key from the ignition, has the little flap closed?.
Confirm all courtesy lights go off.
If you have the auto function for lights, switch them off.
Switch off the steering column adjustment.
Switch off the auto function on wipers if fitted.
Confirm when locked, no warning on message centre.
These few things should help you track it down then all you have to do is rectify it.
Hope this helps,

There are plenty of very detailed threads on here with all the suspects, tests & fixes. You're looking for a drain after 40mins of say 50mA. Just go reading.
The jag diags generally can't find this stuff because to operate they draw amps.
You need old fashioned electrical tests not electronics tests.

I had this same issue and my battery drain problem was a faulty ignition switch, (the back half can be replaced without removing the key portion). These are a result of heavy keychains that leave the switch partially on and it burns the contacts.
There was a thread on here quite a while ago with a reply from a dealership mechanic stating this was so frequently the cause that they automatically changed out the rear of the ignition switch first.

Thats some good info there, Peace....
The ingnition switch on my car is buggerd and therefor to stop the battery drain issue the previous owner installed a ford solenoid next to the battery with and activation switch under the steering wheel. This effectively cuts off the whole car from any drain source. It has no memories for the display settings and every day is a new day for my car.
