S Type battery drain

I had this same issue and my battery drain problem was a faulty ignition switch, (the back half can be replaced without removing the key portion). These are a result of heavy keychains that leave the switch partially on and it burns the contacts.
There was a thread on here quite a while ago with a reply from a dealership mechanic stating this was so frequently the cause that they automatically changed out the rear of the ignition switch first.

If there was a drain, replacing battery may have fixed it, if low battery voltage was triggering modules and such. But if the drain still exists, replacing battery only masks the drain, requiring more days to elapse before the car will not start. I would be interested in knowing does car start after several days of sitting.

I just recently had my 2002 S-Type broken down for 4 months. The battery was going flat. The PATS disabled the engine. And on the couple of occasions that I got lucky and magically got it to start, it wouldn't shut down. I finally found out what the problem was. In the trunk/boot look for a fuse called the transit relay fuse. Remove it and throw it as far away from the car as possible. Look it up and you will see what it's for. I scratched my head for 4 months and hopefully I can save you some trouble.
