I have an '01 S-Type that recently failed a smog check due to a check engine light failure. A friend cleared the code for me (sparkplug misfire) and told me to drive it for about 100 miles. I did, got it re-tested, and failed again. When I contacted a Jaguar mechanic, he told me that I needed to perform a specific drive cycle in order to pass inspection. He didn't know what the precise cycle was. Can anyone tell me what cycle I need to perform in order to pass my smog inspection? Thanks.

You need to educate youself about drive monitors. They are several and they must be in the "Ready" state or can't get the smog check. Yes they are reset by what's called drive cycles. You can drive for several weeks or agin do some work and find out what Jaguar has defined as a "Drive cycle".

You'll have to follow the newbie rules to read the PDF.
Or... try Gus's site.
Chances are you have an actual fault and will need to fix it. On your era car.... go looking on here as you've not put your engine size etc in. If it's a 3.0 there are multiple common faults, all fairly easy DIY and all covered on here often.
In case you do have faults, the drive cycle may never set the monitors.
Also, if you're unlucky, you may as a result not get any codes so I hope you made detailed notes about any you had..
