Default S Type Heater problem

Hi

I purchased a beautiful White Jaguar S Type, 4.oL, V8 one month ago. The heater does not work on it, it certainly blows good cold air and the aircon is great but the heater is non existent !

I have had it in to my mechanic and he said it is the heater valve. I have just ordered a heater valve and am wondering how to put it in ? My partner has some ramps and I believe it is about a two hour job with lots of cups of tea/beers and a back massage to follow !

Is there anybody out there who has installed one of these (part number XR822975) ?

Would really love to hear from you.

Thanks.

I have installed many. Not fun. Easiest way I have found is to go from underneath. Remove entire bracket with valve attached and swap it over.

Makes you wonder what happened to the good old days when heater valves had a single inlet and outlet running off vacuum.

Dual zone climate control is a must.

Francesca....I take it you are in Australia? Welcome to the forums.

If you don't care for doing it from underneath, you can pull the fan pack out and kind of do it from the top. Not the ideal way however.

Thanks very much- yes I am "Down Under" where heating is usually not something a lot of people think we need but, in Canberra, it gets down to -7...not Polar ice cap material but heating surecomes in handy.

Thanks to all for the great advice

We are currently TRYING to get the old heater valve out of my V8 and it is proving somewhat difficult !

How on earth are you supposed to get it out of that small area between the sump and the cross member ? And going in from the top looks just as tricky ?

Any advice would be great...otherwise we have to succumb to the dealer's hefty price to fit it.

I regret to say we gave up- it was proving too stressful -the Jaguar dealer has won ! Will be booking it in this week and just paying to get it done.

How many hours should it take for a trained Jaguar mechanic to install a new heater valve in a V8? Just so I have some idea.

About 45 minutes actual time. I forget what the book time is. Maybe 1.20 or there abouts.
Sorry you gave up. Somethings are pretty tough to do if you have never done it before.

Yeah 2 hours customer pay would be right. Our shop is 1.5 times warranty time. So if warranty pays 1.2 then we would probably charge 2 hours for cp.

Why would it not be covered? Electrical failure of valve. I would double check with warr co.

I have already tried to put it through under warranty and they say it is not covered- it is quite specific in what is and isn't covered -it is one of those three year warranty's that you can purchase with the car for $500 AUD. The mechanic even tried a bit of creative wording but, alas, no luck.

Well, I have a heater that works ! Cost $680.00 all up ( I bought the part from jagspares, after market Bosch, brand new $325.00) and it took the service guys a couple of hours to fit. In Aus they charge $120.00 per hour labour.

The heat coming out of it doesn't feel that hot to me- for a European car that is used to serious minus temperatures it should be pretty hot right ?

Partly depends what the outside tempt is.
A 4.0 is notorious for air pockets. Open the bleeder by the expansion tank while the car is running. See if any air comesout.

Drive it around for aday with the windows down, set to hi temp and a low fan speed (don't cook yourself). If there is a stubborn air bubble it will bleed out.

Keep an eye on the coolant level too. If you're low and get an air bubble in there your heater will get left high and dry.

Replaced mine from the top, removing as much hosiery as needed. You NEED a heater in Canada....

Also, look for little hair line cracks in the expansion tank. #1 cause for heater not working on Stype.
