S-Type Ignition Coils Ebay vs Autozone vs OEM
Hey guys this is my first official post!!
My father has a 00 S-Type 4.0 and the coils needs replacing. I read alof of good information here about Ignition Coils and that only 3 specified factories make them...
Ebay Coil are ALWAYS the cheapest by my main concern is warranty. For example if I buy a Coil from Autozone and it goes bad, I can walk in there..and they will exchange it under there Lifetime Warranty?..as for Ebay, do we have to go thru the hassle?
Dealer Coils , well we all know how expensive they are.!..
Should I just buy the Ebay ones for $140 and be happy?..Anything to look out for?
Or if I have doubts, satisfy meself with Autozone and spend the extra $250?

The Ebay coils are fine. Many people have used them. They should come with new boots, be sure and install them as well. You should also change the spark plugs at this time. You most likely will find oil on the coil boots. You will need to change the valve/cam cover gaskets. Its way easier to do this all at once otherwise you will get pissed off going in and changing things one or two at a time.

I would. It's not that expensive and it will happen if it has not already happened. It's not really a big deal but it will cause miss-fires and crappy running as well as making your new coils fail and short to ground. Do you plan to keep the car or are you going to fix it and sell it?

Only replace a COP as needed, alot times they canbe cleaned with CRC MAF sensor cleaner and dryed with a hair dryer.
Do a visual Inspection and look for evidence of a rust residue on the rubber boot on COP, because water or oil will cause a shorted coil and misfire.
Contaminated coils and misfireing is the least of your problems, after 60k-80k miles consider new seconday cam chain tensioners during a gasket and spark plug boss seal replacement.
Point and click on this thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=954555
The older Model S type JAG cam chain tensioners will wear like a cheap tire, derail the cam chain, and valves will bend.
It took me 2-hours per bank for a Gasket,Spark plug boss seal, and seconday cam chain tensioner.
Like a DR. don't touch the primary cam and crank timing!

All the time is being spent on taking off the valve covers during the gasket & seal replacement, the sesconday cam tensioners are easy, if you know the trade secret.
Trust me, the old ones are plastic, and the new 3rd generation are made of metal.
If something works don't fix it, there is a test for a COP check.
Becareful of dropping those black plastic clips and COP screws, use a shop vac or air pressure to get them out of spark plug boss.
If lost little black clips, you can use a little RTV silicone sealeat to glue the electrical connector into the COP.
If you lose a 8mm screw for COP's or cover, don't pay $10 a screw, you can buy stainless steel at any local hardware store for 20cents.
The money you save, you can buy new 3rd generation secondary Cam chain tensioners for around $90 each.
Some shops won't say nothing about oil or water shorting out the COP's,because theres good money in
cleaning the COP,reset fault code, and charge for a new COP replacement
