Default S type Jaguar temperature gauge

I'm completely new to this but here I go… My 2005 S-Type fan continues to run for 2 to 3 minutes after the engine is shut off . Also the temperature gauge moves from the halfway point over to well past but not to the red. I'm told by some that the fan continue to run is normal but I have owned this car over 11 years and has never had this to happen. Is this an indication of a bad thermostat or water pump problems?

Is your coolant level at the full mark? These coolant systems have many weak links due to plastic components. Check your level, then have a good look at your thermostat assembly and all the plastic piping around it. And be sure to have a good look at the plastic hose nozzles on the coolant expansion tank. They are known to develop hairline cracks and any tank assembly older than three or four years is always suspect....

It's a sign of the car being over-hot. Figuring out why can require patience as you need to figure out whether the sensors & actuators are working (for your region).

You haven't said anything about where you are or enough car details, etc...

The full workshop manual is on this site.
