Maybe a giant suction cup on the roof with a huge st of beanie copter blades ...

First I have to get it up in the air via the 4 lift points or maybe on a lift and get a good look at what's under there. If my copy of JTIS specifically covered the 2005 R then it might help too ...

The RH rear side has some kind of double walled plastic piece that must have to do with air flow or something perhaps??? Next to that is a gas tank. Then more plastic forward of there. I could try and lift on the subframe arms but I think it suggest snot to?

I had similar issues with my race car when I got it and there was nothing except the 4 lift points. I tried and everything crushed or bent. So I had to weld some fixtures onto the car and now I can quickly lift from the front or rear and set it down on 4 jack stands nicely without damage to the car. No way that was possible in stock form.

I can do that here if need be but I expect we'll get this figured out. Though some nice welded in .25" thick lift plates located on those 4 puney factory lift points would be nice.

I can't figure why yours is not symmetrical. Or why it's not the same as mine - that's not meant to be anything they changed for 2005.

Could there be a plastic cover on one side that maybe's missing from mine and one side of yours? It would probably locate on the small holes you'll have founf on the other side's metal piece.

Maube it just snaps in/out of those holes? I think I'll take a trip up to the dealers and ask (with a box of donuts). ;>))

The droopy 1/2" heat shield also seems wierd to me. I need to have complete look under there. I wish my car lift wasn't occupied. Argh!

Yes, it works great. Need to check that your jack has a removable saddle.

You then have a clear shot to set the jack stands.

One jack does the other does not so that's an issue as I like to lift both sides simultaneously if I can.

As for setting the jacks stands, front yes rear maybe not. I'm not sure all the various models of this car are the same. I think I'm going to have to get the car up on a lift and investigate a bit.

I only have one jack that has the removable saddle. I bought it just so I could mount the unibody adapter.

If you search Bull27's posts, he posted pictures of his STR in the air. I think it was his alignment thread. It offers a clear shot of the rear underside of the car.

Default I got an alignment today

So while it was up in the air I had a chance to see what's what under there a bit.

Lifting the rear: There is a very large crossmember in the rear for the diff.
It has a folded edge and step-lip. If you place an adapter piece on there I think you can lift the car just fine. I think you could also lift it by the cast-iron portion of the diff but it may be too hard to get to it. This car has quite a bit of rear overhang.

On the RH side in the rear the spot mentioned by mmany for a jack stand has a plastic molded cover covering either a wire harness of hose so that spot is out. The LH side is clear though just like most people have mentioned on here.

I also noticed that the stamped sheet metal link that lays flat on the bottom of the car and goes to the rear subframe/suspension on each side has what looks like a pretty robust mounting point. I think either a jack or jack stand could work there with an adapter. Since it is an anchor point for the suspension I expect it's pretty stong.

Here are the proper lift points for the S-Type from the JTIS. The plastic cover in the rear covers a large cable. Only one bolt to remove. Just be careful you don't smash the large cable!!

Also DO NOT lift it by the rear pumpkin!!! A very bad idea on this car.

I cut a piece of oak to fit the recessed areas provided for the factory jack. I made a trial lift with it and obtained no sheet metal damage. I have been looking for some pics of what others were doing in their efforts to lift their Jags. Thanks to those who posted pics.

I use the two frame rails by the transmission pan in front and the pinch welds in the back. 2 post asymmetric lift

Dear All,

I had to lift and jack my S-Type and your posts really helped me. In order to help you (hopefully), I have posted some pics showing where are the lifting and jacking points (FRONT). As my English is not good (I am French), I think there is nothing better than photos to show what to do without taking some risks to damage the car.
The next message will show you where to position the jack. For those who asked previously, there is no need to remove the plasctic part that protects the wire.
