If the clips were like the ones in my video they are easy to deal with if you get the tool I show. I actually found that tool at Harbor Freight and its cheaper then the auto parts stores.

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone know if this is the same procedure for a 2004 X350 XJ?

Thanks,

Mat

Maybe the workshop manual from ebay? Or better still use jag's site (TOPIx).

at matt, if you look at my thread in the XK8 area, I changed my filter and there are some pics.

The previous MY (2002) filter had a spanner (threaded) fitting on each end. Thought mine was going to be similar, but turns out the 03 has 'tabbed' press-on fittings. My guess is your 04 will be the same, but looking at it should confirm that.

wow!

After reading this, I thought I should go change my fuel filter. I got about 113k and the filter looks like the original motorcraft. Only $10 for the filter, $15 for that tiny little line tool. Mine's an '03, same filter as shown in Vance's video.

I made the fuel filter an every 3 oil change swap. So every three oil changes I'll throw in a new fuel filter. Figure for 10 bucks its not too much for always having it nice and clean. Plus its really not hard to do once you have that tool.

Default Changing fuel filter s-type r

Good You Tube vid. However I would have put the bracket on before attaching lines.

Perhaps, but may be easier to place lines on with full access to all angles of lines and filter.

4. Unbolt the bracket from the car, maybe one 10mm bolt if memory serves correctly (could be smaller?)
NOW THE FUN PART!
5. You must now remove the fittings from the barbs...
6. THE SYSTEM IS UNDER PRESSURE!
7. Get a towel, a bucket, and put on some clothes you do not care about.
8. The fittings are pinch fittings and once you push the little button on the fitting in, it should pull off.
9. Premium gas is going to spray everywhere......
10. Remove both fittings and remove the old filter from the bracket and install new one.
11. Reverse removal procedure and reinstall.
12. Lower the car down and prime the system 3 times or so, by turning the key to on position, then back to off, then on, etc... to make sure you have fuel in the lines before starting.
13. And vuala your done.
Do you need the 5/16 line separator for an 03 STR?

Yes you do. On my 2002.5 STR if I remember correctly I used the 5/16 line separator. The main problem I had was getting the new filter back in the factory bracket without collapsing/scratching the filter and making sure the fuel lines clipped in securely on either side of the Bosch filter that was supposed to be the correct replacement; Bosch F5939. It was close in size but not exactly the same as the Jaguar/Motorcraft filter.
The Bosch part listed had slightly larger diameter fuel lines also than the Jaguar branded fuel filter (read Motorcraft). The factory fuel lines clipped in well to this Bosch part but was more difficult to clip in. I would stick to the Motorcraft filter; which I assume is still made in the USA. The Bosch part to my surprise was made in China which I was not too impressed about.
The Jaguar filter was the factory original and I had only just changed it last month at 70,000 miles.
The car had been sitting around for some time without being started and it was a cool day so I didn't depressurise, with little fuel lost.

I've found local shops to do my fuel filter pretty reasonably. I took off the fender liner to make it easier for them too. It's basically Ford fittings on the fuel filter, so anyone familiar with Fords can do it. The owner's manual says 50,000 miles for the filter, but mine was pretty dirty at 30,000 miles. If you do it yourself let the car sit overnight and there won't be near as much fuel pressure in the lines.

Even if there's pressure there is not much flow (thus little actual fluid).

Easy to confuse the two.
