S-Type R high oil consumption
Hi all, helping a friend diagnose a couple of issues-
1 qt. every 500 miles consumption
high LTFT (9.x)
Any ideas would be welcome. I am thinking the EGR for a vacuum leak explains the high LTFT, would failed cam cover orings leaking into the plug holes cause high consumption?
Also, blue smoke at startup occasionally, never while at speed.

In that case, try running TC-W3 rated 2 stroke oil mixed into the fuel at 640:1 for a couple of tanks.
It will clean and unstick the oil rings.

How many miles on the car?
Have you done a compression test?
Have you done a leak down test?
If worried about the EGR you can pull the vacuum hose off so it does not operate to see if the oil consumption changes.
These tests will tell you if the rings or the valves are the problem. As was posted above you might get off easy if the valve stem seals are leaking and need replaced.
But I would be scared to try and replace them in the car like I have done on regular 2 valve V-8's!! Just don't think you would have room because the back cylinders are tucked so far back and down in the chassis. As well as the 2 camshafts in the way.
Has anyone changed valve stem seals with the heads still on the engine in the car?

My str uses about 800mls to 1 liter of oil in about 5000km witch is
My prefered service interval anyways . It has 150.000km on it ,
Also a blue puff of smoke only after
a two or more day sit in the shed ! But no smoke the following day after use,
I'm running 10/10ths racing full synthetic 5w30 penrite oil ! It's basicly yellow water!
It never fouls plugs or runs off song and with no nasty noises , so il leave it alone,
I thrash the pants off it and seems to be holding together just fine !
Yours uses less oil than mine !

I'm new on this forum, and also with the Jaguar STR.
Mine has a really high oil consumption symptoms exactly like the ones you described above.
No signs of oil burning at high speed, only cold start for a few seconds.
Did you solve the issue?
Thanks for sharing!
