S Type R questions
Hello everyone...
I currently drive an 03 BMW M3 convertible. It's a great car, but I'm in the mood for something else. I've always liked the styling of the S Type Jags, but wasn't sold on the performance. Imagine myexcitement when I learned of the S Type R. The BMW dealership here has a 2003 S Type R with 31,000 miles. I'm pleased with the exterior styling and appearance. I would rather see 19" rims stock (as that's what my M3 has) but the 18's are finished in a gloss black an looks great on the gun metal exterior. The interior is nice and plush, more like what I experienced in my CLK55, with wood grain, navigation and an automatic transmission. The only part of the interior I don't really care for is the instrument panel. The gauges are plain and uninspiring compared to what I'm used to.
Aside from the small complaint about the gauges the car seems awesome. Lots of power, comfortable and a real head turner. What I'm hoping for is a little feedback from currnet or previous owners. What could I expect as far as maintainence? How about oil? My M3 requires 8 Liters of Castrol 10W60 which is available only from the dealership. What's the oil capacity of the S Type R? Synthetic oil? How about things to look for on the S Type or any other helpful information you may be able to offer. It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel

RE: S Type R questions
hey daniel, i have an S type R...i can def agree with you about the instruments but after having the car you get used to them and they are def liveable...id make sure you get the extended warranty Its around $3k from the dealer as long as it has 30 days or more left on the current one, seeing you still have plenty of mileage...i just had my oil changed, it takes about 6 quarts and the recc. is 5W30...the dealers actually use a castrol blend but i have mobil 1 full synthetic put in...just make sure its been serviced right, clean car fax, run a paint meter on the panels etc...do you have alink for the one you are actually thinking about buying? hope this helps...if you have any more questions let me know, i have a lot of exp with the competition including E AMGs, M3s, M5s etc Good Luck!
