S-Type Speed Bleeders
Anyone know what size Speed Bleeders to get for an '08 4.2 S-Type? I'm pretty sure the rears are 10 mm, SB1010 on the speedbleeder.com/size page. The very helpful lady there isn't sure about the fronts though. I ordered SB8125L, but they're not right - the 8 mm diameter is either right or very close, but the thread pitch is slightly different. A 9 mm wrench fits the bleeders that are in it now. She thinks they may be 5/16". Metric rears, SAE fronts?

Sorry, I must beg to differ. I've had them out and measured the diameter with a micrometer. The rears on my car are 10 mm diameter (0.3937"/9.99998 mm) and a 10 mm wrench fits them. The fronts are 0.3135" diameter (7.963 mm, pretty darn close to 8) and a 9 mm wrench fits them. They definitely are not the same on my car. Rear length is 39 - 30 mm, front length is 35 - 36 mm.

Typo in my last post: "39 - 30" should have been "29 - 30". The threads do not appear to match. I tried installing an 8125L in a front caliper - it was going in, but binding more and more the further it went, so I quit before going too far. I pulled it back out and tried to mesh threads of my stock one and the Speed Bleeder and it did not appear that they matched. I may buy a stock replacement and send it to them so they can decide what matches it.

For my '08 S-type (which is well beyond VIN N52048) with 326 mm discs, front Speed Bleeder type is SB8125LL, rear is SB1010S. Oddly, the wrench size for the stock front is 9 mm, while for Speed Bleeder it's 8 mm; wrench size for stock rear is 10 mm, but 11 mm for SB part. Whatever, they fit. And they work beautifully and make brake bleeding a breeze. Be advised that they will slowly bleed by gravity, so if you want to take a break while doing the job, be sure to tighten the bleeder. Thanks to SBCat for the very specific and very helpful information.
