actually, i work until about 6 tonight, then the subs will be going in. Hopefully if my plan goes right, it will be quite simple and should sound much better the factory 6's.

Ultra 8's (1 pair) they seem to be higher efficiency and should work well in the free air enviorment of our vehicles.

I did run into 1 issue though, my sony camera has a duo pro stick in it, and i lost the adapter....so i have to stop and find one somewhere before i get home..........uggggg

8's are installed, running off the factory amp. While the deep bass is present, the factory amp is having trouble keeping up. I have done some rta measurements, and now i need to wire in an aftermarket amplifier, to see what the differences make. Working on it a little at a time as i have been really busy for the past few months. I did take some pics of the 8's installed, i will get them up as soon as i can.

Jason, did you ever get the Amp installed? I just got back from a local audio store and was told that this "solution" won't work. I was told to pull out the two subs, leave the holes empty, and install a 12" sub in a box in the trunk with an amp. He said I shouldn't worry about the whole speaker/ rear amp removal issue (stereo not working if it senses them missing) and he will work it out...

I didn't feel real confident that he knew this car and it's quirks. What do you think about this?

What amp are you planning (or already did) to install with these speakers? Is a box underneath them required?

Thanks!

Craig

Any update on this? The stock STR alpine subswoofers suck!

my 2005 s-type came with an alpine set of 8inch woofers which did a good job in my opinion, but i wanted more thump in my base category.. so i disconnected the alpines, upgraded to a 12'' woofer and ported it to the inside of my cabin by building a custom box myself. I ended up spending $150 and 8hrs of work of a Saturday day *(ill put up pics soon)*

So I'm guessing the OP abandoned this thread? Guess we will never know the final outcome of those 8" subs Jason installed

Jason ran into some untimely luck, had to sell his STR and haven't seen much of him. BUMMER he is a wiz bang and his audio knowledge is dually missed!

Jason was trying to sell his car a while back so he may not own it anymore.

What was the final outcome with this? Just bought an 07 STR & extremely disappointed in the sound system. I have the Alpine system with the "so called" subs and it's just not acceptable! I like everything except the distorted noise that comes out when I turn it up. All I would like to know is can I change just the factory subs with some other brand and have it sound better than the factory setup? I don't wanna get involved with changing the deck & amp.
