Default S-Type Trunk Release Malfunction

2004 S-Type trunk will not release using FOB, cab button, or trunk lid button. Will only open with key in trunk. Have looked at the fuse and looks good. I can hear a clicking sound in the rear passenger fender area but nothing from the trunk lid when any of the buttons are pushed. It worked the other day when I opened the trunk in the morning but after closing it and needing it open 5 minutes later nothing. I know others have posted similar questions but did not see any with the clicking sound I hear.

Did your valet button get set somehow? not sure about the clicking.
Check the valet, its the easiest first step.

I forgot to mention in my original post that I have verified that the Valet mode is NOT engaged - the button is not pressed in and I have tried the trunk release with the button pushed in and with it out.

If you have it, the valet button's in the glove box. Activated and if you also have a valet key (green, I think) then a valet can drive the car but not unlock the trunk or the glove box.

To me it sounds like there is a problem in the trunk harness, specifically going to the release motor

Is there any moisture in your trunk in the spare tire / battery well? Even small amounts of water in the trunk of these cars plays havoc with the electronics routed down there....

I hadthe spare tire out while verifying that the fuse is alright and there is no moisture present. Thanks. Any other thoughts?

Could you elaborate on the trunk harness thing?

Thank you for the information. I needed to solve this in my mother-in-law's 2002 S Type and your solution solved the issue. I'm a hero thanks to you!

You already have one open thread on this problem. It is best to keep only one thread going at a time as it makes things complicated/confusing for forum members to follow multiple threads on the same topic...
