Default S-Type Tyres

I'm looking for some new tyres in the next 3-4K miles. I saw these GT tyres and they look pretty nice.
There are $58 a piece plus about $12 SH.

GT Tires CHAMPIRO 328 225/55ZR16 99W
Has anyone used these on the S-Type? Any other tyres in this price range that might perform better?
Thanks. Greg

**** i thought kumhos were cheap at just over $100 lol ive never heard of them before, id be kind of scared to trust them with my life

I def recc. kumhos if you are on a budget....they deliver 90% performance overall of tires that cost twice as much money. Ive had many sets of them on different cars ive owned, they have never let me down once

That price is pretty incredible. We sell factory style Contis in that size for about $100 at the dealer and customers usually buy from us at that price. We stay away from the truly cheap tires like the Pepboys 4 for $99 type stuff.

Looks like you are getting a summer tread tire. That said, I too have had great experience with Kumho's. The tread life was ok but what impressed me was the way they held a balance. My experience with other brands has been that they started to pick up vibrations when worn. Then again, I'm a bit picky when it comes to vibrations. Been known to spend hundreds on brakes, tires, alignment, just to get rid of a slight vibration. I've been shopping for tires myself. I'm thinking of a set of Dunlap's that seem to be pretty affordable and well rated. The car has 235/50-17's on it and was thinking of moving to a 245/45-17. There is less than 1/2" difference between the two sizes in outside diameter. I wonder what others think.

I have Nexxen N3000 tires on my S-Type R and Nexxen N7000 all-season tires on my X-Type Sportwagon. The size you want 245/45-17 are readily available for less than $100 per tire and come highly rated. Do a search on google for ratings and a seller you are comfortable with.

They are excellent tires...

Default Tires...

I ended up putting on Goodyear Eagle GTs. The local Goodyear store had them on sale for just under $100 each. (I think they got me on mounting and balancing though - $15 each).

I bought one for the spare too. It was looking pretty dead with 3 plugs in it and holding air for about 2 days! Now she has good rubber to roll on.

I like the Eagle GTs. The tread patern is pretty cool and the grip the road well. (My son put them on his Mustang GT before he new I put them on the Jag - and vice versa...)

I re-did the brakes last weekend. New ceramic pads front and rear and I put on new rotors on the front. The back rotors looked new, but all pads were dead. That was not too bad a job. Not as easy as on my motorcycle, but still not bad.

So she is rolling safe now. I hope I can get rid of this occassional little 'engine shake' once she gets warm.

A little web searching will tell you that the "GT" brand is a major label in Asian markets. Recently brought here as a store brand by groups of independent tire dealers. They offer a wide range of treads and styles.

While my S Type is still on the factory tires, I have a set of GT brand tires on my Subaru and they perform well on that car. Also had GT's on a previous Dodge with the factory high performance package. Good there too.

That said, I have no idea yet what I'll put on the Jag when the time comes.

When we purchased our S-Type back in mid-December, one of the bargaining chips I used to drive the price down was the new set of Hankook Ventus tires that the Jaguar dealership installed to prep the car for sale. I had never owned a Korean tire before and was very wary of all of them. We've put nearly 13,000 miles on the car and I must admit that these Hankook tires are holding up far better than I initially expected. They ride well, they wear evenly, they have never hydroplaned even in heavy rainstorms at freeway speeds, I keep them at 33 to 34 psi, and I rotate them myself every oil & filter change at 6,000 miles. New tread depth right out of the factory was 9/32 and all four of them currently measure just over 7/32. Hankook's treadwear warranty on these tires is 50,000 miles and while I don't expect them to go the distance, they may very well go 40,000 miles. At just over $100 each on a car that is known to chew through tires with regularity, that's not bad at all....

I use Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, they're around $260 each. Expensive, but they grip very well. You'd have a hard time burning out if you tried, they'd just dig into the ground and launch you. And they're the best tires I've had in heavy rain. Road noise seems average, not the quietest but hardly what I'd consider noisy. I think they're quieter than the Pirelli's I've used on the back before.
