Post S-type V6 Head Gasket replacement

Hello Jaguar forums I'm having trouble figuring out the size for the bolts under the cams.
I had a coolant problem awhile back just leaking coolant and engine overheated. I fixed it but the check engine codes said head gasket needed to be changed. I also got a misfire but it didn't show what part. So I'm thinking it was because it overheated.
The check engine light went away a couple days ago but still when I'm finished driving I can smell a faint coolant smell coming from under the hood.
I'm replacing the left side (drivers view) head gaskets I'll be replacing the right side next week.
I'm using Mahle multi steel layered gaskets.
Anyways please help!

Hi
Do you have a copy of the JTIS or the jaguar epc both of these may be able to help you find out the size of the bolt. What caused the initial over heating?

Did you do any testing to see if that was the problem?
Water in the oil? Compression test?
Maybe pressure test the cooling system to make sure it's not just a leak?

It's a lot of work and expensive to replace on a DOHC engine.
It's pretty rare to lose a head gasket for any reason on the V-6.

When I had the overheat I got a check engine light Autozone said the codes were pulling up head gasket. Both sides. I figured it was a leak once I saw the cam bolts with oil. Took a closer look at the valve cover lid and saw the gasket have a tear

The check engine light went away also after I bought the first head gasket. I still bought the second one without changing the first one. Do you think the car just gave me misfires because the overheat?

First lesson; Autozone is clueless so don't listen to them. Just get the codes read and did you have them erase everything?

Also there are no codes for a blown head gasket so again post the actual codes and make sure it repeats before you do that.

This is key as you MUST get the codes to repeat or you will be chasing everything/anything.

Do this FIRST before ANYTHING else! Stop buying parts until you know what is needed.

Again as I said above it's rare for the V-6 to lose a head gasket. Do NOT replace the head gaskets unless you do more testing. You could easily create more problems as it's a complicated repair at best.

The V-6 has a list of known problems so please start there. And remember head gaskets are very rare problem so look for something else.

Did you get the JTIS and the EPC?
Both free on this site and mandatory if you plan to keep the car.
