Default S Type vent crack

HELLO, I was advised ( by spouse) that defrost vent has crack in plastic cover & I have noticed every S Type has a similar problem is this a common problem or what? Is there simple fix? ie leather cover like stingray hide , are the two light/sensors for headlight & security?
I also called royal purple to see if max ATF 01320 was compatable with 5r55n of which they said yes!
Please advise

Defrost vent: Yup, seems more of them are showing up here broken. Do a search, but I don't recall a "fix" other than replacement.

You will have an easy time with Trans fluid since your car uses the Ford trans... It's the ZF guys (03 and up) that have to take out a second mortgage to do a trans service....

Yes mine suddenly split no reason - it was okay one day - not the next ??????
regards the ZF fluid - in the uk 'Millers Oils' make an equivalent fluid that I have used along with many others here and it cost me Less than £100 uk money. for
20 ltrs delivered. Why is there no one in the states who can do the same ??

Raygin,

No advice on the vent I'm afraid except to change it.

As for the ZF fluid have you seen this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...on-sale-44570/ ?

There are cheaper options than the dealers for the ZF fluid, there are also cheaper alternatives to the ZF fluid which some people have used, however others are nervous about using these particularly if their warrantys are still in effect.

Er.... it's not actually the right fluid, just arguably good enough - correct?

If not, why? Again, the royal purple stuff is fine for your 5r55 trans. In fact, any off the shelf (Ford 5r55 compatible) fluid at your local auto parts store is fine for it... and cheap.

Yes that,s very true. but if it's good enough and meets spec. ... is it then not the right fluid (recipe) but just from a different source ?
Like a Japanese copy - just as good but half the price ... notice I did not say Chinese copy

I will have to pass on that one Don't know, I'm only going by what the Millers oil guy said to me and the feedback from others that have used it over the last couple of years and had success. Now I have put that in print I will probably walk out to a car with a ''Wimpey Burgered'' gearbox
I will hold you responsible for that act of God

Ford recommends Mercon SP in the exact same Z transmission, kinda makes me think the high price fluid is all hype!

There's doubt about that - see previous post about it. (May have been by Staatsof)
