Default S Type won't start

I am having a issue with my 2005 4.2 S Type. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here goes.

Occasionally with no warning my car will crank but no start. When it does start it's immediate with no hesitation whatsoever. I have been having this problem for about 3,weeks now, and really don't want to get rid of it. I have just over 150,000 miles on it and believe that there is another 150,000 or more left in her. There is a code that is P0442, but that's it. Please help me save my 4.2...

There are many items that can cause a no-start condition. Check for fuel supply, check for vacuum leak(s) indicated by DTC P0442 and check wiring loom to coils and injectors.

Does the anti-theft system function correctly?

Has any work been performed recently on the engine? Have the spark plugs been replaced?

Has the fuel filter been replaced?

You may also have a failing or weak battery, which can cause odd problems. With the ignition in the off position, there should be more than 12.2 volts across the battery terminals, if not, the battery must be replaced.

Thanks for responding. I have noticed that the doors haven't been locking properly for a while. So whenever I lock doors with remote, it unlocks. So I guess that the anti theft system is not funtioning properly. The spark plugs nor the coils have been replaced. I will check for vacuum leaks. I'm so grateful for your insight!

Failing batteries cause all sorts of spurious issues including doors locking/unlocking on their own and trunk lids popping open on their own. If your battery is more than four or five years old, I would start there....

That sounds like either the alternator or a battery tht was recently being charged i.e. not its true voltage.

Sadly I think that means you don't know if the battery is OK or not.

I'll get the battery checked in the morning. I have gotten to the point where I just don't trust mechanics anymore, especially when I pull up in my Jaguar.

If it's been standing overnight then a cheap voltmeter will do, especially if you can watch it as someone puts a heavy electrical load on it / cranks it.

You have 1 of the 4 door lock actuators malfunctioning which is causing the doors to unlock themselves.

See the attached link for a brief description on my wife's rear door actuator:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-65657/

The faulty actuator should not have anything to do with vehicle having a no start situation.

When it does not start but cranks. Look at the PATS light on the dash in the center up by the base of the windshield.

Let us know what it's doing. Solid red light or flashing. How fast the flashing.

It has been about a week since the last no start situation, I drive it daily, with at least 9 different starting and haven't experienced any issue as of late. I will check light if/when situation reoccurs.
