Oh, not particularly explicit. Didn't see it in the New members intro rules. Apologies. I guess everyone here pays for Topix access and doesn't use the Jtis software that's Stickied on this forum. Or the JDS / SDD diagnostic gear. I'll bump this thread in 62years when the copyright expires.

Thanks for some valuable input. From what I've read, you are right, regular DVD's will not work because of the size of the files. You need a Dual Layer disc and DL capable burner. Alternatively, I'll try and keep an eye out at scrappies for an S-type with the Denso unit. I would lament spending £30 on out of date maps. My 3 year old Volvo already needs maps updating due to all the roadworks that's gone on round here. Fortunately, Volvo provide the genuine files online FOC. You just need a USB drive with 50GB!

If you're talking about any special markings, I think you may be thinking of the actual DVD label (which the reader cannot see) & are there to distinguish genuine from counterfeit.

It does work & Joe is correct. I made three backup discs of the 2012 version as all my Jags use them. I've run with the backups in place for years & have zero problems.

I went thru multiple attempts using different burners/copiers etc on several different DVD type disks and although the burns appeared to work my NAV reader would not recognise them.

I thought I recognised your name, as we've had this conversation before.

Ok the difference then is that you had access to a file on the UK forum whereas I tried creating my own.
Any pointer to that image file?
I should add I am creating a backup file not anything to sell!
I think I found them but they are no longer there.

Almost correct. I said that I created one using an image file, but also created one by copying a disc. So I verified two different methods & they worked.
The image file from an ex-forum member's dropbox has not been available for some time. It's use to you is limited as it's for UK & Western Europe.

If you're trying to copy a disc you have, then the disc copy command or create image file should both work. What OS are you running & which software are you using to read/burn the discs ? Is it a quality disc, as car players are fussier ? Is it a -r disc, not +r & it's not a RW disc either ?

I copied mine off a friends disc who had a original, I just used roxio software which copied it and never had any issues with it
if your nav dvd player in the boot is tired, the laser that is, as most are now as there getting old, some wont read copies, some only read genuine ones, as the lasers are old and need tweaking inside, they can be adjusted and you can also buy new laser off ebay, but there not cheap

I have another satnav reader and when I have time will have another go at this. Too much going on at the moment.
I tried a number of different readers/burners that were recommended and two major dula layer DVD suppliers one was Verbatim forget the other.
You have given me a bit more hope on something I gave up on.
