Default Seat Belt Codes

I have a 2005 S-type and the 2 DTC faults I'm showing on my OBD scanner (which appears to have caused the check engine light come on) are "B1700" and "B1710."
In googling those, I found that B1700 = "Passenger’s Seatbelt Tension Reducer Circuit Short to Ground" - AND B1710 = "Seat Driver Front Up Switch Circuit Open." Are those items that I might be able to fix myself fairly easily? If so, what would that entail. If not, what I have to take it into a dealer or would a general mechanic, such as a Firestone shop be able to fix what's needed (to pass inspection)? - Thanks in advance!

Firestone is fine for tires, brakes and general mechanical repairs. Automotive electrical work is likely to fall outside their wheelhouse. I personally would not want a Firestone tech tearing my interior apart searching for a wiring fault.

Kind of odd for these codes to pop up? Are the B Codes the only thing your scanner picks up?

Hey Mark,

Yes, but it was after clearing the codes and driving a couple hundred miles (after replacing a faulty spark plug and/or coil – I replaced them both). I will be taking it to a proper testing station and I'm sure there will be some other codes that probably will pop up. If I still need help though, I'll be back to the forums :-)
