seperate s/c cooling from engine cooling
#61
I have finally gotten the Killer chiller install to the point of running the engine, I am in total awe over the results. I have not yet driven the car, we have only had it running in the shop. I removed the heat exchanger in the front & had a tank made of aluminun, it is mounted to the bottom of the bumper beam. We ran the car for app 1/2 hour after 10 minutes the intercoolers were so cold you could see condensation on them, after 20 minutes the whole bumper beam was cold.
I hope to drive the car on friday morning, I will post results.

I have not had a chance to moniter with my laptop yet however we have been in quite a heat wave here in Mass. The other day after driving 15 minutes I was then sitting in traffic & watched the outside temp gauge in the car showing 106, the temp of the coolant coming out of the intercoolers was 75. This is totally amazing. I have also noticed that while cruising on the highway the discharge temp is the same as ambient. I still need to compare the IAT & IAT2. I can run the car hard on the highway & as soon as I let off the gas I can watch the temp go right back down. With this system instead of heat soak when idling you have even cooler temps. The car now runs like it does on a cool fall day. I will follow up with more details.

Holy cow! This separate s/c cooling system could be the answer to most of our higher horsepower dreams? We got to know how you did it! Step by step. I'm preparing her for a port/polish/pulley. We need your separate s/c cooling circuit plans.

Having the A/C will also rob power, not so good either. By having coolant reservoir of about 2 gallons, you will have enough cold coolant for at least 15 second full throttle (pending pump/reservoir), then the system will heat up if no radiator helps. So as long as you are not running on the autobahn or on a track the periods between wots could be just enough to have the system cold enough again for the next wot.
@JAXKR, Looking forward to some test data, do you know what flow rate you have and total coolant volume? Then it would be interesting to know when you start from the coldest coolant (as a baseline), how much seconds you have until the temps are going up (i.e. quick successive full throttle runs after one another), and also by how much the temp has gone up. And last but not least the time & temps when the coolant has circulated at least once. The next again how long it takes until the temp is again back it the coldest temp after driving normal for a while. Would it be possible to disable your alky system for the runs?
