Shifter Cable/Metal Arm in Shifter Replacement
I've been driving an ultra-clean 2001 Jaguar S Type 3.0 that I've decided to keep for myself. It has 67k miles.
Driving the other day, the transmission went into neutral when I took off from a traffic light. I shifted down into 4 and it went fine. I then shifted it to D and everything seemed good.
This week, it did the same thing but I got a "Gearbox Fault" message. Pulling over and reworking the shifter made the car drive fine. Cycling the key made the message disappear.
After reading here, I decided to order a new shifter cable and metal part for the shifter mechanism that breaks. Good decision. It took about two hours to do everything and the shift detends are very good. It seems that my shift cable was stretched.
I'd recommend that everyone do this before you have major issues.
