Shifter to Neutral with dead battery - FIXED
2007 S-type (auto - gas) with 52,000 km - I've had for 5 weeks with no problems. Car has sat for a week & when I went to start a couple of days ago, it was obvious that the battery was not at full charge. Car did start but threw off numerous warnings - transmission; engine system faults etc. (which I assume are due to low battery) I turned the car off & checked battery level which was at 9.6 volts. I plan on having car taken (on a flatbed) in to have alternator\battery checked and just tried to put shifter in N. It stays in Park, even when engine is started.
Any hints on how to manually get the shifter to Neutral, would be appreciated. I've searched the forum but no luck.
Thanks for any assistance

NO - Once engine was running & I saw all of the error messages, I turned off engine. Checked battery then & it was at 9+ volts. Started it again today just to shift to N but it would not shift - even pressing on brake. I may not be able to charge as car is a long distance from electrical outlet.
I know that I can take battery out of car to charge but my back went out last week & I can't left the sucker out of the car - and no one around to assist. (not a great week!). I'm just trying to get the car in for service as I can't do b-all myself at the moment

Not sure jumping it would do anything as the "in-car" battery would still be low voltage & throwing errors & shifter would not shift. Maybe I'll have to see if I can get a new battery as a loaner, put it in & run car with that, hoping that all of the error messages will go away & all will be well

Well - battery was a goner. Got it out charged it to 12.6 & in one hour had dropped to 11.6 and by the next morning dropped to 9.7 (all the while sitting out of the car on wooden porch) Picked up a new batt yestderday & once the rain stops wil get it installed & hope that all of the errors go away.

Now CEL & beep ?
Replaced battery (as described above) voltage meter shows 12.4 v. All errors cleared EXCEPT when engine light (amber) comes on & when I put car in gear a "beeping" sound is emitted. There was NOTHING wrong prior to battery going south, so I assume that nothing is wrong now, I read on the forum that driving the car should clear the engine light but since I am new with this, just want to check that the motor won't fall out if I drive it
Thanks for any tips

I do get the "Unable to apply park brake" message but that was there before with no engine light & no "beeping". Neither #1 or #2 shoudl prevent me from driving the car ( I would think) #3 I know did NOT happen, as I am the only one to drive the car.
Thanks
