I had the same problem with my 1987 XJS. I took the shock down to my local hardware store and was able to match up some bushings but they were a bit too long. I cut them to size, cleaned all the burs from the cutting process, smeared a bit of anti-seize on them and they fit better than the originals. Total cost (I have 4 shocks on the back) was about 6 dollars at the store. Hope it helps.

Some time back I needed shock mount bushings for the rear shocks (all 4 of them) for a 1987 XJS Hess & Eisenhardt. The bushings that are part of the shock, the part the mounting bolt slips through, were larger than the bolts that held the shock to the lower mounts. I had to fabricate some bushings to take up the slack in the shock bushing and just slid them into the shock bushings and no more slop when the shock was bolted on. I took the mounting bolt down to the local hardware store and found a bushing that was close and that did it.
