While loading up my luggage into the STR at the hotel yesterday, a guy drove by and stopped and just started asking me all kinds of stuff about the car, and how much he liked it, and that he "knows what an R can do".....real nice guy, a total stranger. He then said he has a manual S-type and loves it (he was in what was likely a rental Hyundai). Instant bond.

That's why....

Jaguar has always offered the best combination of luxury, performance and handling available for the money even when new. When used, you pay Honda money for a long legged luxury interstate cruiser that has elements of Sir William Lyons traditional Jaguar saloon styling from the 1960's.

I have wanted a rear wheel drive sports sedan for years. I am glad I finally have one.

I wanted a classic style that wouldn't blend in with all the "jelly bean shaped" cars!!!!
Also respect for the Heritage of the Brand, despite Lucas!!!! ( check Wikipedia "Lucas
Industries) for a fascinating history lesson).

I loved the unconventional styling of the car and the performance. I try to stop by the dealer's service bay frequently to look at mine and take pictures.

Got mine because I was in love with this car since I saw this song back in 1999-2000.

YouTube - ‪Sting - Desert Rose‬‏

Love the song, love the car styling, performance and handling.

And like Chris Mentioned earlier, whenever I see my car, it puts smile on my face

They need to reshoot that with an R. Then when he tries to sing she floors it and Sting is thrown back and his neck snaps so hard he can even sing the song anymore. Maybe that could be the instrumental versions video. LOL. Awesome find though I had never seen the video to that song and never knew there was a video that had an S type in it. Way to go Sting.

Wonder how much Jaguar paid Mr. Sumner for product placement in that video....

Bertrandgray, I appreciate your wry sense of humor. I certainly hope that you get your S-Type problems resolved once and for all very soon. You deserve some peace of mind....

When the S Type came out I never really liked them but I've had my X300 for 3 years and it has been a great car. when I was looking for a change I thought the X308 looked too much like the 300 and the 350 is a bit pricey for me.
After researching the S Type I found you could get a V8...I thought they were all V6 engined !!.
The S Type 4L V8 appeared on E bay a fortnight ago - full service history, brand new tyres, last full service at a Jag dealer in March this year, only 85500 miles and the seller lived nearby.
I won the auction at a good price-£1000 less than the dealers are asking for a similar model, I am Delighted with the car

Love the styling on the S Type, had a chance to get an 2005 STR, I didn't wait. I grabbed it.

I saw a guy driving around in a 2007 Green S-Type R for several months and after getting a good look at it, I had to have one, because the set-up and lay out is just downright awesome, sexy, husky and desireable.

As proof to my assessment, I have a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte Executive GT A2462, A 2007 Audi RS4 and this platinum 2005 Jaguar S-Type R. The Audi and the Maserati I've worked, Chromed, rimmed, customized and polished to make them real eye catchers.

I've done nothing to this (Jaguar S-Type R yet, though I've got some really nice goodies on the way), and everywhere I go in it, there are continual references/compliments on how absolutely elegant, beautiful, sexy and unique it is. I've never owned a vehicle that's gotten as much attention or praise before. And when I want to show off a little I turn off the DSC (aka Joy Kill Button) and people are amazed. I really dig this car. It feels like it was made just for me.

I'm jealous. How would you compare its handling to the STR?

Why do I have an S-type? Because my 300m was totaled! I actually used most of the insurance money to pay for school, not the car (well not completely). I was looking at a mercedes when a friend's dad told me about a jag they just received at a shop across the street from his work. Went out for a test drive and loved it, plus it was a bit cheaper than the mercedes and rode smoother on the street. I like sports cars, but I also like big cars. That combination, plus my stickler for interior quality, limited my choices at the time as I was only 25 and still in college. But I worked full time at the bank (discount on loans!) and, well, it's a Jag!

I had looked at some older XJRs before I bought the 300, and when STR presented itself to me at a price I could now afford, I was finally able to get a car at 25 that I thought I'd never have until I was 45. Just wish gas was still under $2.

The handling on the car is a bit tighter than that of the S-Type R. They're comparable in horsepower. I've raced the two using my brother as the other driver and whichever car I drove, won the quarter. The suspension is probably more comparable to that of Jaguar XJ, but remember, the car is HEAVY, curb weight of about 4250lbs.

There is a HUGE difference in purchase price and in maintenance costs. The Maz's interior eclipses and out classes the Jag. I actually look at the car as being the best Jaguar, that Jaguar never built.

All of the cars I own handling wise feel "very squishy" after you've driven an R8. I came close to purchasing one of those, but the S-Type R with it's distinctive look, appeal and.... "Considerably lower purchase cost" was the more prudent choice at this time. I'm still paying college tuition for one daughter and just finished doing so for the other. (each at nearly 40k per annum).

Quite simply, the S-Type is the last Jaguar that Jaguar will ever build that looks like a Jaguar. And the final specimen, the 2008 V8 Satin Edition, is the best of the lot (except maybe for the STR).

I'm getting the S-type due to the generosity of my father. I've been searching for a daily driver so I can use my SUV (heavily modified) for recreational purposes and he offered to give me his '01 S-Type V8. It's completely stock and only has 30K miles on it. I'll be adding another 2,000 miles driving it back from Northern Michigan in July. It's going to be nice having a vehicle without imprints for children's car seats and milk stains in the back! I'll keep those in my Pathfinder and my wife's 2011 Sienna!
