Somebody HELP!
I took my 2003 STR into the local Ken Baker European automotive shop. They said they could program my key fob to the car with just the one and only key I have. They said the computer told them there were 3 keys programmed to the car but I only have one. So he said he could still reprogram it after he "cleared" or reset the key. Now I have a car that will not start. He said he's waiting to here back from his computer company about them sending a rewrite for the car/key. If he cannot get it going after that he said he would have to get a NEW key. Which is fine, I just am at a loss as to why it will not start. I need help and clearly he does too.

Yes, so he thought, but is clearly not working out the way he intended. He cleared the programming and now can't get this one to work to even start the car now. Wasn't a thing wrong with it starting and running before. All I wanted was the damn key fob to work.

Just found this on another forum. Bet it was something this simple and now its costing me hundreds because this mechanic isnt going to fix his screw up for free.
"Is the little sliding 'shutter' sticking open in the ignition switch? If so that will prevent the remote fobs from working, because the car 'thinks' you still have a key in the ignition.
A very small squirt of WD40 in the ignition switch will cure it, though purists on here suggest that oil should not be put in keyholes; you should use graphite powder....
If that is the cause, once the shutter is working again, you may need to reprogram the fobs again (as before) because you may have cleared them when you tried before."

You can tell if the flap is working by watching your dash when you turn the car off. The STR automatically applies the parking brake and will light the red "Parking Brake Applied" light on the dash. If the flap is sticking the car won't apply the parking brake because it thinks you still have the key in the ignition.
Do you know if the parking brake was being applied before you took it to him?
This flap is also the cause of some of the battery problems we see too. If the flap does not shut the car won't enter sleep mode and fully power down after 30-45 minutes.
As you said I would NOT use WD-40 in a lock! Use powdered graphite. WD-40 will leave a sticky residue after it dry's. Locks need the graphite.
