Something really weird just happened...
2005 Jaguar S=Type VDP Edition. I'm pushing my shopping cart through the parking lot toward my car and as I approach, I press the unlock button on the key fob. Once to open the driver's door and twice to open all the doors. I must have either pressed it three times or held the button down too long because all of a sudden, all 4 windows roll down, the sunroof slides back and the trunk/boot opens. I'm staring at the car wondering what the hell is going on.... Oh, I forgot to mention. It was freakiing pouring rain outside. I couldn't get the windows back up without starting the engine. Rain is pouring in through the roof and the windows, which the leather interior doesn't like at all. I got everything closed, placed all my wet groceries in the trunk and went into the user manual to see what I had done. In all the years I have owned this car, I've never seen that feature (if that's what It is). I admit I was finding buttons and switches 6 months after owning the car that did things I had no idea about, Took me 2 weeks before I knew there were cup holders embedded in the front of the back seat. The user manual gave no clue as to what the feature was or how to activate it. I tried duplicating the button push on the fob with no success, so maybe it was a combination of buttons that got pushed. I was pushing a shopping cart and struggling to get the keys from my pocket. Any ideas? Thanks.

Ya, know, I honestly don't think I've ever put the key in either door. I did use the key to get into the trunk/boot after I had a strange trunk lock failure. I pressed the trunk unlock button when I got home from grocery shopping (weird things happen to my car when I grocery shop). The trunk opened but there was a plastic grocery bag caught on the handle on the emergency trunk release (you know, when you lock somebody in the trunk of the car, they have a way to escape). and as the trunk raised, the weight of the bag pulled the handle. Then the trunk wouldn't lock. I jiggled the cable and got the trunk to close, but couldn't open it again with the key fob. I had to use the key, and it took forever to find the key slot, but once I had it opened, it then closed properly when I lowered it and never had that problem again. Way more info than you wanted, I know, but I had the time, so what the heck..

As you noted no one uses the manual key. You would be far ahead to cycle the key in and out of the lock with some lubricant from time to time to keep them operational. You never know when you might need it!
One other suggestion is to lubricate the gas door as these tend to get stuck and you can't open them. A little white lithium grease on the plastic actuating pin and again work that pin back and forth some to make sure it keeps sliding.

HI
The global lock unlock is enabled in Jaguar ids/sdd, its in the dealer options
also if your windows all open, but wont shut, means that window has not had the one touch reset
as above works on the key in the door
and also works on the lock unlock button on the dash, press and hold will open all window and will close all windows
cheers
