Hey guys... anyone know the dimensions of the rear stock subs?? I have been thinking about just swapping the stock subs and amp out, but most of the aftermarket subs have huge magnets, and are huge even if they match the stock 8 or 10 inch subs, and I have been thinking that they will not fit, I would have to cut the plastic tray thing in the trunk or something...
Another option that I was thinking about is to keep the stock subs in there, and put one 12 in the trunk, but then, the 12 sub will sound crappy because the stock subs would also work.
OVERALL.. is there a way to make the stock subs not subs, just normal speakers?m and then put a sub in the trunk?
Thanks,
Paul

Semipaipaul, there is a lot to consider when planning to upgrade your subs.
1) First of all what is your budget?
2) What type of music do you primarily listen to?
Honestly, I don’t think that two 8†free air subs will quench your thrust. Remember if you opt to replace your stock subs in its original place, you’ll have to find subs that are made to perform well in ‘free air’ or not enclosed. Then, like you said how much fabrication will it require to get the new 8†subs to fit in the stocks place?
Now if you were to get two 8†subs enclosed, well that is a different story.
You could do anything as small and compact as Infinity basslink 10†200 watt amplified self enclosed subwoofer, which can be had for about $160, and will handily outperform two 8†free air subs. Or you could go buck wild and build a crazy sound system.
As far as repalcing the stock subs with something else, you could always repalce it with anythingsmaller as long as you have adapters.

You also should think about the bass you want. 8" subs aren't meant for huge deep bass...they are meant to add a 3rd dimension to the overall sound of the radio...10's sound good but the bigger the better for myself. The bigger the sub the lower the bass. I'd try looking into a kicker l5 or l7 and try that...ever think about just keeping the 8" subs in the car and adding an amp and getting some good door and rear deck speakers???

On the my S-type my budget is about $1000 for my system. I'm getting fourinfinitykappa's 682.7CF, for the front and rear doors. I'm not doing anything with the 8" subs in the rear shelf. For bass I'm getting 1 12"Eclipse SW8200 in a nice ported box. I'm hoping that since the infinity's run off 2ohm I won't need to run them to an amp and get somethin to power the 12" sub.
