Default Spacers

I wanted some spacers to push the front wheels out slightly when I ran across this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_1419wt_940

So for $80 I get a set of spacers shipped to me. I have been in contact with the seller and they are made to order so you can have any width. Turn around time is a week per the seller and when they come in I will let you all know about the quality.

20mm and I hate the fact that the front wheels look sucked in.

You'd rather change the looks a bit than keep the designed handling, alignment etc of a performance car?

Over here you'd have to inform your insurers (you might - just about conceivably - also render the car unroadworthy and if so then illegal to use on the roads). Does any of that apply where you are, too?

These are probably made in China. I know they say USA but ... hardly anyone actually does anymore especially in California. They were most likely engineered and passed quality control nowhere. Imagine you're at a drag race and one of the front wheels starts to wobble or worse it comes off!

Get a set from an establish firm that has a lot to lose if it turns out to be shoddy goods. It's a not a guarantee but who are you going to go after for this bunch Paypal?

My 2 cents.

Yes. It is my car not yours. Thanks for the talk dad...

And what am I going to use more in the real world? That handling and performance? Not a public road!!

The guy's website is really good for someone who makes the parts in China. Nothing like having American looking guys standing in front of a cnc machine.

f you get the ones that are just spacers and don't have studs mounted in aluminum then perhaps you can get longer wheel bolts I don't know? That's a lot safer. Have you done a google map of his business location to see if it's legit?

Sorry. I've been burned before with a steering wheel extension piece.

H&R makes hubcentric spacer kits for our cars, anywhere from 5mm to 20mm. Including the proper length wheel studs as needed. I posted them all on another page a while back, but search for H&R 5x108 on ebay.

Most of them will come up branded as Volvo spacers, but thanks to ford, the Volvos, and our generation of Jaguars both use the 5x108 wheel bolt pattern, and the 65.1mm centerbore.

Take care,

George

But i agree with Michael star about the look on the front.

But will it affect the handling/performance thats the question.

Yes of course it will affect handling. Steering, too. Spacers move the centre of mass of the parts (wheel etc) from where it was designed to be to somewhere else. You'll change the load on the affected suspension parts and the wear as well as the handling. You may cause the wheels to rub.

It's not my car so it's your choice. I'm glad the person doing this is not over here with a modified car on our public roads, as it could be a friend or family member who is maimed or killed.

..I too must admit having the the spacers on the front will definitely make the STr more meaner than ever, and especially for me since I have 20's on my bitch . Please post back with a pic and your assessment on it.

Happy motoring!

Pics of the STR on 20's?

I've seen a couple S's on 20's and SuperJag's car on 19's but never an STR on 20's.

Thanks,

George

Personal taste, I guess, but to me that's a lovely shiny car somewhat ruined by wheels that are too big. Thanks for posting - it has me convinced that 20" is too big (ignoring the other issues).

I think the wheels look OK but if those tires are the same diameter as the 18" stock ones no thanks. The stock tires are enough of a hazard with the very low profile. We have REAL pot holes here. I remember a bad winter in NYC 1994 or 5? when I saw a pot hole swallow half a taxi cab. No sh*t!

Yah know we really should be driving Hummers here.

..... Some ppl are just old school who don't believe in modifications, but others go to the extreme for perfection. I personally have no regrets for going with the 20s; infact I highly recommend it . The str feels a lot better in handling & cornering with the Arden springs on it, plus there are no issues for having 20s on, looks hell of a lot better than stock, that's just my personal taste , I wouldn't recommend 20s only if you have bad roads where you-live, that's the only negative.

Cheers!
