Speaker upgrade/Window regulator.

Speaker upgrade/Window regulator.
Had the usual problem of a broken plastic runner on the regulator. Shattered to bits when my 8yo slammed the door with the window down. It mad a hell of a noise! A one stage I thought the glass had shattered.
I have struggled finding a good used front LH unit. Hence have ordered the rebuild kit from a Florida seller on ebay.
Anyone ever tried this fix, I would love to know?
Whilst I was probing I thought I would check out the standard speaker set up.
It was just that......standard! The size is restrictive @5x7".
I had a good 6.5" setup with splits lying round that I thought I might make fit.
A lot of work to manufacture an adaptor plate and use existing 2 screw holes where the speakers are to fit.
I intend to cut only the leather on the door trim for the tweeters as it is easily and cheaply replaceable, and not batstardise the door trim.
I have to work out where to fit/secure the crossover.
Notes/Questions:
The door is well engineered to create good bass and needs to be as airtight as possible when reinstalling all fittings or plastic covers. So fresh glue/mastic.
Any replacement speakers fitted need to seal well on any plates that are may be used. So gasket up.
Need help on the polarity of standard setup/loom!!!
Will any lubricant/ grease help/ prolong life of window runners?
I don't have a clue what to use in the rear to compliment new fronts!
Happy tinkering gents (and ladies!)
I will keep you posted.
John.
ps I have used my 5 file max. Will send more soon

Kind of hard to answer without the year and model?? If you have the early 2000-2002 then use the Lincoln LS part. They are all over EBay. Should be well under $100. You have found the secret to keeping the window regulators in one piece. DO NOT slam the door with the window in ANY position except fully open or closed. Closed is always better. NO-do not get a used part. They are pretty easy to change and new is much better.
Do a search and you will find many, many threads about window regulators and how to repair.

Thanks for the reply tbird6.
The car is a pre-production 2002 STR.
Now I get it not to let anyone slam/shut door with window down.
The local wreckers wanted $160USD for a used part.It arrived but was for the earlier model. Sent it back.
New here in Aust $420USD!
Therefore have ordered repair kit.
