Default Squeaking back Tires!!

Happy Sunday fellow Jaguar enthusiasts. This post is directed towards the experts with 2000 Jaguar S-type 4.0s and people who have had s similar issue. For the past few months there has been a developing problem with what I think is the suspension on my cat . Ok so when ever I'm driving below 20 mph or I'm going over a rough patch of road, the back part of my jaguar squeaks very loudly. It is very embrassing when I have passengers or passing by people and this happens. My questions are what do you think may be causing this and would anyone happen to have the part number on sngbarret.com for rear wheel bearings. Thanks for reading and potential advice!!!

Worn brake pads/rotors or bearings. That sounds like a rolling squeal. Once you get moving, the car is going fast enough not to hear it.

The video link (below) has an informative explanation of the steering and suspension noise problems on an s type. At about the 7th minute mark there is information on squeaking from the rear that may fit with your issue.

Our forum has a FAQ from Rick to replace the rear tie rod and sway bar with photos. I don't know about changes from your 2000 model to the work done on his 2005 model.

From doing a quick search. The rear wheel bearings appear to be the same part number over the years (2000-2008). Part number: XR81723

This link has them but there are many other places to search using the part number.

Paul, thanks for posting the video. Very informative. I also wonder if a tire could rub at slow speeds against something.

Hi David
I think you are right about tyre rubbing. It would be worth it for Cam to check the inner tyre wall for any tell tale marks from something rubbing before doing anything else. An inspection might uncover the problem quickly.

I don't profess to be an expert just thought of giving out the information that I have seen.

There are also a couple of videos online posted by s type owners, that you can see and hear, that sounds like rusty mattress springs when the rear of the car is bounced up and down. If Cam comes back with more details, or looks at these videos, it might become clearer.

The rear suspension is one area with little to no changes. All 1999-2008 S types, 2000-2006 Lincoln LS and even several years of the XF all have the same rear suspension.
