Default SRS Again

Not having a problem but curious if others experiance this. Over the weekend I was spending some time in the passenger seat. The light on the passenger side bag was getting on my nerves. Seems it doesn't like it if you don't sit properly. I reclined the seat way back and it came on. then if I had my arm flailed out on the console it would blink at me. Laurie laughed and said "Keep your arms inside the ride"

Anyone else notice this? I assume it's the spacial sensors detecting I'm in a bad position for a crash and disabling one or more of the bags.

Yes the sensor is in the seat. Maye a problem with that? When the light is on the passenger side airbag is disabled.

Jim,
There are spacial sensors, in the door pillar and above the windscreen (there may be more) that will de activate the bag if you are leaning forward, back etc.
I don't think you have a problem, sounds like it is working properly.

That's what I figured Norri. Just got on my nerves a bit. It was like the car was scolding me and saying "Sit up right and quit figgiting about!" On a long trip I think a piece of black electical tape would be in order.

When I had my Jags, my 110lb mother would sit in the passenger seat and the light would go on and off depending on how she shifted etc.

Basically, its afraid that if too little an occupant (and the only way it can judge is weight) is in the seat, that the airbag will do more harm than good in the event of a collision and it deactivates it.

Its pretty picky / particular about where u sit on the seat - unless you're a big enough guy like I am were you have no choice but to take up the entire seat

Take care,

George
