Default Stabilising Link for Rear Suspension / Wheel Clicking

Hi All,

Spent the day with my trusty tools going over the new 2002 S-Type 4.2ltr. I can only say it has been a process of discovery.

I found the brake pads on all wheel to be nice and new so no need now to replace pads. I was hunting down a clicking noise that is eminating from the back read wheel that disappears under braking.

Is this a sign of a wheel bearing? Strange that is disappears when braking!

I also notice the Stabilising Link for the Rear Suspension (Knuckle end) on both rear wheel lookks absolutely gone. The rubber sheaths are broken and the oil packing is exposed. Thansk to the trusty JEPC and knowing my VIN M51542, I have isolated taht the part I need is C2C1802 although when I go into Jagbits.com is says: Jaguar 2003-2006 S-TYPE FROM VIN M45255 ON AND 2004 ON XJ8 FITS EITHER SIDE
Code: C2C36985. Which one do you trust? Is it just a part number upgrade?

Does anyone know of a great place to purchase a replacement Stablising Link?

Another interesting observation from today's investogation was that the car has a 'tin' shealth around the wheel nuts I guess to make the wheel nut look shiney. I found a few wheen nut had loose fitting sheath which rattles and one wheen nut was very difficult to get off due the outer sheath turning on the nut.

Hope every one has a great day.

Dirk

Hi Dirk ("Dirk Diggler" from Boogie Nights fame?). Jag Bits is a relaible vendor as they use the VIN for accuracy. Check your "S" build date, as it may be actually an 03 marketed car. Regardless, the VIN is the definitive variable in ordering the parts. Check the forums search feature for threads on replacing Jags cheap two-piece lug nuts with solid chrome. We have the part numbers readily available for you but you first must grin and bear it through the forums "Seeking knowledge" initiation process. The clicking is likely the lugs two-pieces hitting each other. At approx. 30 mph the clicking stops as centripical force holds them together. Welcome aboard chap.

Dirkman, there is a wrecker here in Melbourne where you can now just buy the boots!
He has only just sourced them. Of course they are not original and are Asian made. Probably only last 3 years or so they tell me. If your joints are ok all you would need to do is change the boots. Let me know if you all are interested and I will post their details.

Take a look at your bearing. I just had to replace mine (same sound as what you are describing).

Britishparts.co.uk..I think have the best rates...check it now.. I have bought those parts from them coz I need to have some parts in my stock...but if u want an easy solution.. Buy Toyota corolla or same model car's small boots and after pressing the jouints of ur old stabilising links replace these boots with ur old one.. Mine links are ok but boots were damage and grease was out.. I just replaced mine link rods and stabilising link boots with a lot of grease.. And now after months it's working gorgeous...u won't believe Toyota's and Suzuki cars boots are same like jaguar's boots.. And u can but them less then 10$.. And now about bearing.. U can buy genuine bearing from that site in 30 pounds.. Coz I have two in my stocks too..see my attachments...
