Steering column "groaning" when moving in and out
Morning all,
This is the Black Beast 09/2000 V6 SE, at 102000kms, so has the Ford steering rack, which I believe has NOTHING to do with the following.
I have searched and get nothing that even gives a hint.
When the steering column is moving in and out when the exit mode is activated, there is a terrible "groaning" and vibration coming from the column.
This can be duplicated by manually operating the column, BUT, it is only when it is in the "fully up" position. If the column is moved "down" the smallest amount, it is SILENT and SMOOTH.
This "groaning" is obviously whenever the key is removed, thus activating the "easy exit" mode, (Up and Away) and is audible outside the car, so is really "Un Jaguar".
I have this morning removed the cowls and sprayed lube on the spiral, and slide areas, NO change at all.
As push has come to shove, I have turned the column to OFF untill I can sort this.
The other "S" has no such noise, and is a 9/2001 build date, so the ZF rack, mmmmm, is there a column difference with the 2 racks??.
I have also searched the TSB's that I can find, again without success.
Spoke to the dealer Service Manager, HAHA, "its an old car, time to move on", was all they could offer. No idea why I bother.
Thanks as always in advance.
