Yes, buy a different car if it's that important to you.
I did an investigation about a year ago and this is what I found.
Not a lot of offerings out there for the Jag's.
But I think you're better off if your car doesn't already have the nav in it because there is a wiring harness available from Parrot that will work with it. How well I don't know. Call them. Now if you have the factory nav system it's very limited as to what you can do and it won't be fully integrated with the cars electronic controls as though it was factory.
You can have Parrot type system installed in a nav car for the bluetooth cell phone function. The PO of my car had that installed and removed. If you get Jaguars $300 Audio Control Module then you can crudely integrate your Ipod with that. Very crude. I ended up with a MP3 player and using the aux-in. All the control is on the player.
There are a lot of very detailed threads both on here and on the UK site that discuss all of this. Take some time and bone up on them.
But it's an old car.

That's not a good installer then...you need this Amazon.com: SWI&PS - PAC Steering wheel control interface for Pioneer and Sony NEW Version 1.6.8 with Bluetooth: Electronics I have a aftermarket Sony-XNV 660BT on my 2001 S-Type and with that adapter my steering wheel controls work fine.
