Question Steering Wheel Squeak?

My steering wheel has a squeak when I turn the wheel. What might cause that?

There is a bushing that causes the noise when it goes out.it is a common prob. An costs about 500 to fix. My car does the same thing. It's not going to hurt anything that's why I have not fixed mine

It can also be caused by the steering fluid, there is an additive and procedure to cure it.

go to your dealer and pay the 10 bucks for the aditive.
put it in your car and turn lock to lock for about 5 circles each direction and the whirling noise will be gone.

mine did it also until I got additive..

Brilliant! Thanks for the response and the link to the previous post. I called the dealer and they have it in stock for $11.60. Got to be one of the lowest cost items they sell!

Update. I bought the additive but have yet to put it in. I thought it might be good to flush the power steering fluid and put in the additive. I called the place where I get the oil changed and they quoted me 79 bucks to do it. I checked with the dealer and they quoted me $225! WTF?!

I don't know where you are but in the states it costs $125 just for jag to look at it. That's there per hour rate. Even if it takes 5 mins to fix or look at something, it's going to be $125 for the hour plus parts.

You can buy the PS additive for about $11 and pour it in yourself, so no hourly rate.

You may be able to find a jag dealer (or indy) who doesn't charge a full hour for a 5 min job. Failing that, think of another job to use up the other 55 mins.

I just do the easy things first. Get a turkey baster from Wal-Mart. Remove the filler screen on the P/S reservoir. Look inside and you will see two tabs that need to be compressed and the screen will lift out. Now use the turkey baster and suck all the fluid out of the reservoir you can. It will take a number of times to get the fluid out. Then refill the reservoir, I use Valvoline synthetic P/S fluid. I like it because it's synthetic and handles heat better and it's water clear so I can see how dirty the fluid is. Since you can't get all the fluid out this way you need to empty the reservoir at least 4 or 5 times. I try to drive about a week in-between changing the fluid. THEN when it's pretty clean I would change it once more and put the additive in first then refill with P/S fluid. Drive the car as was posted above. The additive fixed my noise 100% in my 2005 STR.

Update:

Took the car with the additive to the oil change place I use. They changed the power steering fluid and put in the additive for me. $89+tax and I get a $10 rebate on the power steering fluid. Drive home had no more squeak! Much better deal than $225 at the dealer!
