Still blows hot air...sometimes
2005 S-Type 4.2:
There was an electrical "burn smell" about a month ago but the car drove fine and no warning lights went off. But when I went to use my a/c right after, it started blowing really hot air, replaced fuse 32, & it blew the fuse after a few minutes.
Replaced the DCCV & still had hot air so sent off the CCM which checked out fine. At idle, the A/C will blow cold with a new fuse in, but blows the fuse after a bit of driving around.
So...took it to two shops before ending up at the dealer. They checked for any shorts in the system (none) and couldn't find anything definite that's blowing the fuse. They "Suspect the A/C clutch is faulty." I asked them to please, since I'm paying, to unplug the clutch so that we're sure. They refused and I ended up ticking them off.
Picked up the car & the A/C was cold for awhile but then blew the fuse. But, here's what's interesting: put in a new fuse (again) and drove it for hours without the fuse blowing. A/C is still blowing cold air for some reason.
The clutch is engaging and not making a racket BTW.
So is it the a/c Pressure Switch, the clutch slowing going out, or the clutch coil maybe? I'm trying to resolve without a lot of $$ thrown out the window.
And how do I go about unplugging the clutch to see if that's the culprit? I'd hate to pay for a new a/c assembly if it's something else...
Thanks for your help! It's been really frustrating.
