Default STR for $7K!

This has a lot of miles on it. I don't think I have heard of any STR above 167K?

If you're thinking of buying this car, go to Kelly Blue Book and research the value of an '03 R with that many miles. I'd guess it might be a tad less. I paid $5K for my '03 v6 with 70K miles in March. That was what KBB said it was worth here in NJ. So KBB is a great resource to estimate a car's current value. Use it when negotiating a deal. And as always, Buyer Beware on eBay.

$7k for the car might be cheap, but $6k for a transmission isn't. Yo get what you pay for with these cars.

You bring up a good point I wonder about. Why is it so expensive to rebuild a 6 speed ZF??

The parts are not hard to find and a complete rebuild kit is only $226.

Overhaul Kit 6HP26 - 6HP26X - 6HP28 - 6HP28X

Now if a valve body needs replaced that is expensive at about $1500+ but I have only heard about a few solenoids being changed and not the entire valve body?

Even the solenoids themselves are only in the $100 range each.

Maybe I misunderstood, but the kit you quote is only for gasket, seals and o-rings and the like.If you need any serious parts, such as clutch packs, sungears etc,I did not see them for sale.

No way I would buy that. Its an east coast/Midwest car. Probably full of rust from all the salt.

Yes the steels are $280
Steel Kit 6HP26 - 6HP26X - 6HP26-A61 - 6HP28 - 6HP28X

The clutch discs (which they call Fiber clutch) is $200
Fiber Clutch Kit 6HP26 - 6HP26X - 6HP26-A61

Unless you had a real big problem the gear sets would not be replaced. Now the TQ would be replaced and they are about $500-$600. So I guess total parts would be about $1300 plus labor to remove and install everything.

I just see 6 sp ZF rebuilt transmissions for about $3500.
Europeantransmissions and...

Have you ever been to the east coast? Cars are not full of rust here.

Its my car - No its not full of rust. It has none actually

It has its fair share of problems of course being almost 11 years old and with its mileage. In the beginning I was having oil loss problems/consumption and it turned out being valve cover. So I am fine on that.

Would have posted here first, though I did awhile back but did not put much info.

Just made a craigslist post if anyone wants to check it out.. I think my price is very fair.

@Rasputin - Transmission rebuilt at 140k $6,500 with receipts.

Kind of glad it didn't sell on eBay. Seems like that would have been a hassle.

Hey thanks for posting the details! It does look like a clean car and I am impressed with the 167K miles.

You kept up with the repairs and that makes all the difference in the world. Someone will get a nice car for a good price. Heck that transmission replacement really makes the car.

Hey thanks,

I have had it up forsale a little over a month. I have had no interest really. I think the mileage scares everyone which is understandable.

Is it problem free right now though?

The decades-old stigma of Jaguar unreliability (well-deserved prior to Ford's ownership) will hurt you until you find an informed buyer who knows STRs. Your best bet may be to find your buyer right here on the Jaguar forum....

I put my car up for sale yesterday and have received no replies through this forum or Craigslist. Every other time I have listed a car on Craigslist I usually get emails within hours lol. I guess an obscure car like the STR requires a person knowledgeable as to its existence and knows that its the best bang for the buck in terms of power and performance (and luxury!).
