Str ecu tune
#21
carloner, I read that Eurotoys uses a Vieszu bench-tune for its ECU tunes. Though it's likely to have allowed 438 hp/488 lb/ft trq., I have yet to see an official dyno-sheet verifying this. Bacardi, your guess is as good as mine regarding TCM shift logic post ECU tune. Others have mentioned improved shift points following an ECU tune.

I wonder how that is, according to the white papers on the TCM, the TCM controls shift points, My guess is a positive reaction to the engines ability to beathe.
Some transmitions like the T-350 and 700R4 love the high HP andTQ figures, hence why they are so common.
they act really funny with little HP.

My BMW tuner echoed the sentiment that the ECU SHOULD help with shift points by spitting the information to the TCM, but I suspect only a seperate TCU tune would give max benefit. Something like what modernhorsepower offers.
Peace.

"R haters" are quick to point out the shift points are:
1st to 2nd at 5250
2nd to 3rd at 5750
3rd to 4th 5900
I've never checked my shift points although it feels low, it looks like I won't have the opportunity to do any WOT runs until the weekend...

Docuzzie and all, I'm confident we'll soon have a verifiable bench tune for all to enjoy. It'll likely be superior to anything Eurotoys, etc. offers, and at a much lower cost if we have enough interested in a group buy. Mafioso, I'll soon need a "Chiller", praying your close. A dyno-tune shortly after warm-up will likely yield the best results. Without a "Chiller; I'll need to let her sit till the intercooler temps. baseline to the first temp. reading. Post ECU tune should yield higher shift points.

I missed this...Two things, first I'll bet a full exhaust and 3lb pulley will get you to and even over 443 ft/lbs and if they don't get you a there an ecu tune in conjunction with the other mods certainly will. Second, if you're unable to change the shift points then you're never reaching peak anyways...I've monitored my shift points during some WOT runs and unfortunately I would bet money that doing an ecu tune would have no effect on the shift points

Today I spoke with Justin of Lomotion (Poughkeepsie, NY). His tuner will arrive this weekend. I'm to check-in on Saturday to meet the tuner and discuss strategy to dyno-tune. Excited but regret not having a "Chiller Killer". We'll dyno shortly after warm-up then wait till cool again before next run....
