Oh, and I suppose check they can restore your factory software if you wish (though anyone with a J2534 tool such as a Drew Tech Mongoose or jag's IDS should be able to).
Can you please tell me what "AE" means? And, do you know if it works with an XF? I assume it's a tool which reads the ECU configuration?

Thanks

I hear you brutal! My present vehicle is under warranty and I'm bidding on another on Ebay at this moment which has 4 days and 1 hour left. If I win that one as I've said, I'll have a car that I can experiment with and trust me, I will do exactly that. 1600 to 1700 to 45HP would be a start, my target would be 550 which would put the car at the top of the class.

Why you ask??? I just want it. I don't drag race or anything but just to say I have it will make me feel fabulous!!

If you are a tuning business (with a Veryon on the main page nonetheless) and you think your business runs on results (dyno graphs) and you want to be a sponsor, show us one STR with before and after dyno results and we will listen. This is a simple as that but if you dont do this, all I can say is "Good Luck."

PS...those damned 335I's are too easy to mod, im jealous.

Am with Brutal, it’s about time you guys are taking a plunch, have given also so many possibilities over time now.

Just one note, when doing a before and after dyno, try to do it as honest as possible, so ensure that your before situation is as optimal as possible (no dirty air filter/fault codes etc), and try to get some good runs, and try to get similar conditions for the after test (always check your tire pressure before the run, this is one of the items that can impact the results).

Last but not least, once the ECU has been tuned give it some time to settle the fuel adaptations, as these will be lost after the tune. On many cars the mixture can be leaner after a reset, skewing the true results.

Am at least already in agreement on 1 claim from ETG regarding NA engines, on heck of a discovery they made there lol:

PS 1 thing I find odd though, if they do 90-100 4.2 Jaguars a year, you would have thought at least 1 would be on our (or other) forums, and that by now almost all 4.2 engines have been tuned?
That doesn't mean they can't do what they are telling. In principle if you have the tools and know where to change change what it isn't rocket science, to do it right (and safe) requires good knowledge/experience though.

Thanks to Brutal you know AE=AutoEnginuity.

I don't know if it works with XF but I expect so. Check their site

It's not a reflash tool (you'd want a J2534 or jag/etc tool for that) but does a LOT of stuff. Less than jag's tools - but it's far cheaper so that's very fair.

Their site has lots of details, screen shots etc if you dig around.

Avos;
That statement from ETG sounds weird?? There are no "Pulleys" on a N/A engine?? Unless he is selling under drive pulleys for the crank and WP?

1600 to 1700 dollars? Doubt that installation of the pulley; we don't even know if it's a 3lb which requires machining the snout...So it could be closer to $2000...Could get a killer nitrous setup for half that...

The 2005 STR I was looking at got away. I bid 14,000 figuring no one was going to top that and... the Car is in Brooklyn NY and I'm in Queens NY for the holidays. I closed my eyes and someone got it fo 14,100. I'm back to trying to get another 2005 before attempting the thread referenced upgrade. I see one now just like mine but without the 2 tone interior for 18,900. If I shake loose the extra 4,900 I'll have the car for the test. Sorry to let you guys down. I just knew I'd land the other.

Hey Doc - you talked to Jason (phd12volt) about his 2003 STR? I think he still has it for sale, and you'd know it would be in great shape and the owner takes great care of it. Pretty sure you know the way to Pittsburgh!

That's a grand idea. I may consider it in a minute. Initially, I've been trying to get another 05 which has the electronic parking brake. I felt this would give me continuity in parts exchanging on two vehicles.

I know the engines and most other items are just about identical if not exactly identical. When I get another breather, I can look into it further. I have Jason's contact information so I can hook up with him.

All STR's have the electronic parking brake. It became standard equipment with the 2003 update.

Yep - sounds good Doc! And the mechanicals between the 03 and 05 are quite similar, so don't sweat that stuff. Dang I will be super jealous if you have two b*tchin STR's!!!

i need 10,500 for it. Only thing it needs is front rotors and pads.(it has a little shake on hard braking) nothing too major though. They are the original rotors anyway

And an alignment as soon as i get the front tires on it.

58,800 miles on it right now. And i just put it away in the garage.

just had the oil changed too and it has a brand new, from Nally, EPB on it.

Evrything is fine on the car, oh i just put windshield wipers on driver and passenger sides. Bosch ones.

And the only thing i was going to do here in a few weeks is put a small amp on the 8's.

Oh has new xenon ignitors and new 4300k D2S xenon bulbs in it too.
I could always deliver it too, if need be.

There were changes relating to CAN (and the EPB, and EVAP and ...) in 2005. May also have got the changed PCM then.

The 2004.5+ (I think 2005 in USA) has the revised dash (fully circular dials etc).

I don't see why anyone would care much, though.
