Default str owners: ever drive a cts-v?

I've been seeing these two cars compared a lot, and just wondered what people here thought about them. They put up very similar numbers to str's, except they are manual, and have much more aftermarket parts to choose from. Do you ever wish your str was a manual? I love the strs, just wondering what people thought of them.

If you mean ANY of the OLD CTS-Vs maybe.. but there is zero comparison between the new CTS-V its a monster! Frightening fast that 0-60 in 3.8 seconds is no joke.

I watched a video comparing the 2010 CTS-V (565 hp) with a 2010 Mustang Shelby GT500 (550 hp) CTS-V 0-60 was 4.2 seconds vs 4.6 for the Stang.

yeah.. I wish I was talking about the new cts-v, just a little out of the price range haha. Riski, a stock str felt faster than the cts-v? And yes, I know, the interior is nothing special in them.

The only reasons to go to one would be to have a manual, and the advantages of having an lsx motor, which there is so much for. They are pretty cheap to build on, with the wide range of aftermarket parts for all lsx engines.

What drove me away is the early V's had terrible wheel hop with any kind of a hard launch. Plus you could not get a automatic at all. So you could not use the power at all. Now they have a 6 speed automatic option which I think will give them more sales.

I love how the STR really plants the rear end, not a trace of axle hop!! But I want more power like the new CTS-V!!! What a great car. I hope the CTS-V depreciates pretty good - maybe they will drop enough in price in 5 or so years to get me interested in one!!

I've been reading up on them and apparently that problem is completely fixed with some new axles that run right around $500.

Drove one around a course a few times with a professional driver on the side giving you advice for a Caddy event. Chassis doesn't feel as confident in the turns compared to the Jag but no hiding both are heavy cars. Caddy's TC is less intrusive then the Jags (wasn't allowed to disable). Manual is great in a small sports car, not as fun in sedan. If you look past straight line acceleration and like a car thats well integrated (say the M3), the jaguar is a much more refined car and they did a better job of integrated all of the componets (steering feel, braking, engine, suspension). Also a DOHC engine just feels smoother to me then a push rod engine but I like the exhaust note of the caddy better.

Well it helps with the wheel hop but all the early CTS-V's are bad at launch. Even with mods it's still a losing battle. I have even seen guys replace the IRS with a solid rear axle to get the power to the ground. The redesigned models have a very upgraded and changed rear end.
