Default STR Performance - G-Tech Pro or similar?

So, been reading up on the various efforts to increase the performance of the STR with much interest. I was wondering what you guys like to use (other than a dyno) to capture and analyze your data?

Scan tools and software?

I was thinking of picking up a G-TechPro "RR" http://www.gtechpro.com/rr.html

Now I realize anything running from the 12v cig outlet is going to have some limitations. I'm thinking maybe I could use this to help establish some decent (not perfect) baseline data. I'm not super serious about having to know exact numbers, just want to have some fun with it. Anybody have one or experience with it?

I also looked at the DashHawk from MSD http://www.dashhawk.com/ - looks like a real nice unit that could also give me boost readings (which the G Tech cannot), however it required an OBD-II with CAN support. I think I am SOL since my STR is a 2003 and CAN really didn't come out until 2004 (correct me if that is wrong, please). MSD lists the 2006-2007 STR as compatible though for some of you guys with newer STR's.

I wonder why Jaguar did not give us a boost gauge? The instrument cluster is probably my only gripe with this car, my X Type had a nicer set of gauges. I don't know if I want to do an A pillar pod, I've done them before but I'm not sure I want one on the STR....

So anyway, any comments or just a discussion - have at it!

For about the same cost you can get AutoEnginuity with their jag extra. It supports FAR more on your car. (I have it.)

Yours does have CAN but in a special way, which AE supports but few tools do.

There are also smart phone apps for this. Search depending on what model you have. Might be the cheapest if you already have the phone?

I have PLX KWI WIFI and DashCommand on my Iphone, neat gadget but fairly limited.

So I got the AE package some sensors are accurate and some are WAY OUT in left field.

Phone apps are very unlikely to handle boost issues. Plus, you'd need an OBD tool to connect (wire or wireless) to the phone.

Which are wrong?

Also, which version of AE (hardware if you care to say, but software is what I really would like to know)?

Did you try AE support? When I did they were good and quickly fixed what I reported (and sent me a beta for me to check).

I thought he wanted to get performance data like 0-60 and such? What the STR is lacking is before and after numbers on the various mods. Just having someone say they can feel a difference is not accurate.

If all that's wanted is 0-60, any OBD tool showing live data (and preferably recording it, with timestamps) should do.

He mentioned boost readings. They are not generic OBD so I suggested AE.

Thanks for the input fellas. Got a link for this AE device? Sounds interesting.

I don't have an IPhone nor any plans to get one, so no apps. My BlackBerry is work issued so therefore kinda off limits and probably useless anyway.

Yeah, mostly looking just for some 0-60/0-100 times, stuff like that. G's would be cool.

Edu-macate me!

The AE (Automotive Enginuity) is a great tool and they do have add on packs for specific car brands (including Jaguar!). I use my friends a good bit and I like it a lot. A bit expensive for me since it does no tuning but you can monitor and record a lot of stuff. Also clear trouble codes.

Dash Command was way off, and Palmer Performace admitted it will not work on Jag due to a lack of efforts for the propriety code.

Er... you said AE didn't work, so I asked for more about AE. Yet your reply is not about AE.
Did you mean AE had problems or not, and if you did mean it had problems..... Please answer what I asked

Just for those who don't know: Palmer Performance are (pretty self-evidently) not AutoEnginuity.

Whoa now Im confused. haha Sorry Jagv8.

Dashcommand was giving me false data vs AE. which is what im using now with the Jaguar module.

My first clue to dashcommand being off, is that SAE.MAP would start at -30.xx in/mercury and almost WOT TPS at 99% it would always report vaccuum,

I re-read my post I do appologize to anyone interested in AE, its dash command thats inaccurate not AE.
I trust AE alot more then DashCommand since Palmer basically admited its candy.

Hey... no worries!

(If AE had been giving wrong readings I'd have really wanted to know which they were.)

Thanks for the link tbird - I did google it and was looking at the tool. Looks really nice for enhanced data collection. I might give it a go then since it's so highly recommended here.

I still kind of like the instant readout of the G-tech, although it looks to be more fluff than substance compared to the AE unit.
