Default STR replacement shocks and alternatives?

Hello!

Anyone have a good line on how to best; i.e. low cost, obtain replacement "CATS" shocks? As I understand, these are not inexpensive due to the electronic dampening/valving.

I've also seen where some XKR drivers have replaced with Bilstein's that are non-CATS and have then disconnected the CATS control module so they don't get the suspension error on the driver's display. From what I've read, you get a slightly firmer overall ride and the shocks are much less expensive.

I'm guessing the OEM shocks are probably good for about 50,000 miles before replacement is needed. Any experiences/thoughts you can kindly share?

Thanks,
Eric

you can probobly bypass the module, or even make replicators to make the module think theyre still there, but unless the shocks are leaking oil(not seaping) you shouldnt need to replace them. I see many many Jags every day with over a 100k and the originals in place still, and Ive tried to find alternative electronic but have failed so far...

Look Bilstein catalogue, there is Jag with OE sport suspension (stiffer setup). Should be good alternative?

I know Bilstein from Porsche world, there it's very much recommended brand. Have myself under my 911.

Thanks for the replies.

Re: the originals lasting - my last experience gives me pause. My GS400 had 68K and the shocks showed no oil or leaking and there was no bouncing when pressing down on the corners of the car but the suspension no longer felt "tight". Anyway, when the shocks were removed, it took them about 2 minutes to fully decompress - so they were clearly shot.

I hope the Jag's last longer and believe I'll try the Bilstein HD if I can figure out how to successfully disconnect the CAT's module without screwing up anything else.

Best,
Eric
