Not sure if they tried loading the old software. From the explanation that I got I doubt it would work as the whole thing seemed frozen. And yes my understanding is that they are swapping the tc as well. Actually I think I would have been a little more upset about this if I didn't believe the old tc was going to have to be replaced anyway. From what I've seen those are going for around $600 so by the time I finished paying for labor and everything else I would have been looking at close to $1000 anyway and would still have an older trans. As it is I should be out the door for not a whole lot more. If I was driving an old Ford I'd be po'd but given what the car is I can't complain too much.

Got the car back and all seems to be working well. He also added the power steering additive which seems to have eliminated the squeeky steering. The next task is changing the headlights. Just a heads up on the early cars with this transmission the computers are fragile. He had another one the same year have a similar failure right behind mine. The initial failure occurred at the dealer this time. The upside in a way is that after pulling the transmission it appears that it probably didn't have much life left in it anyways. I can't recall right now but I have an e-mail out to find out the exact year and model of the donor car. I do know that it was newer with an updated computer. Also of note it seems to have eliminated that slow to close to stop and then go lurch that I used to experience and have read others have as well. Finally the key fobs now work which they didn't prior to this. This is the second time that I have had other problems with the car that the key fobs have gone dead. The first time it was a worn ebrake pad which threw 30+ codes. Bottom line I really do like this car but I think you would have to in order to deal with some of the issues.

Here's my take on it. First I would try to find a legit Jag Mechanic with the computer to do the flash. The dealer will hit you for at least $300. The downside is that there is no guarantee that it will solve the problem. You could have a bad Torque converter or the whole trans could be going bad. In my case I think the problem was more than just the flash so it's probably just as well that it worked out as it did. But if you can find a guy with the computer they will probably charge you around $100 for the flash and that's certainly worth taking a shot. Also as an add'l benefit my new trans doesn't experience that lurch that I used to get when I slowed to an almost stop and then start again. Anyway best of luck cyberpanther.
