Somewhat related, I had a chance to drive a Dodge Charger rental while my 2005 S-Type was being worked on and had the following observations:
1. The S-Type is a lot more comfortable to drive. Not surprising with the biggest difference being the seats in the S-Type are a lot nicer as well as being more adjustable. The Dodge seating position is quite a bit more upright.
2. The S-Type seems a lot more agile. When I tried the same maneuvers I normally do in the Jag, the Dodge didn't respond really well and required a lot more effort. The steering in the Dodge was pretty vague compared to the Jag.
3. The S-Type seems quite a bit quicker than the Dodge. This can be attributed to the 6 speed trans on the S-Type vs the 4 speed trans on the Dodge. Also, the S-Type's engine was a bit more responsive once you get on the cams (about 4000 rpm).
My overall impression is that though the cars should be evenly matched on paper, once you get in real world situations, the S-Type is much better. This approach seems to be a Jaguar trait throughout its line I've noticed.

I'll let you know.... my boss has a srt8 300 with exhaust and cold air intake. I'm going to run him with my car, but mine won't be stock either.... I think the low end power will win the race for me. The srt8 has tons of power, but it's higher in the rpm band. The blower makes it instant power.

I just sold my Jeep SRT8 - main difference is its all wheel drive..vs other SRT8s
DO NOT race one from a dig.. 420HP and very fast to about 80mph..
The SRT8's are damn quick and with the right driver I would say faster on the bottom end..
top end I would say the Jag would pull so unless its 130mph race I wouldnt try it..

No wonder Jag "short shifts" the STR. All 400 hp in at 5000 rpm and all 410 ft./lb torque in at 3200 rpm...For an automatic trans. car; why shift her out of her "top power" range and have to wait for the rpm's to drop for next shift? Jaguar informed me; the STR will activate DSC when the sensors pick up excessive wheel spin even when DSC is inactivated; hence the DSC light flashing in instrument cluster under certain hard acceleration conditions where theres tire spin. The Jag tech also added that excessive tire wear will hasten wheel spin, inturn activating the DSC under heavy acceleration. I like the fact that the DSC kicks in, assuring a hard launch devoid of excessive tire spin= nice out of the hole SRT8 eating launch.

The XF will do that as well. At least the 2010 with the new 385hp 5.0 motor. Don't ask how I know as I'm sure that is not appropriate behaviour with a dealer loaner...

Was this with the kiddies in the car? No wonder they were giggling. You're lucky they didn't rat you out to your wife.

My dad wasn't so lucky when he took my brother and me up to around 90 mph on a back road in NY. We both blabbed to our mother and she chewed him out over that.
By the way, I see where '09 XFs are going for between $40K and $50K. Maybe in three years time the price will be right for you.

Just gearing alone can destroy a car if the ratios are not matched with the power build up. Besides with times within 3 tenths of each other in a normal road race that wont make a difference one bit Comparing numbers is a quick comparison, but spend time at the track and you see those dont make a difference if they are within as much as a second of each other.

As I said.. Jag would Catch up top end in those cars due to the 5 Speed
Look at the Numbers for the Jeep SRT8 I had, 0-60 in under 5 second, 4.8 was the magazines usually stated. They are SUPER fast off the line especially with the ALL Wheel drive then die out top end from the Tranny and overall shape and weight

I beat a Pontiac G8 GT slightly modded from a stop til 110 and had him by 5-6 cars, and a Trailblazer SS RWD slightly modded from a stop 8-9 cars to about 100mph and a 45mph roll to 120 and that was like 8-9 cars....
Will post vids of last night of those beatings once I upload them to my youtube

Guys, I have an STR. I also have more than 20 years driving experience and know cars. I've driven the SRT8 and can tell you with absolute certainty that it will take my STR to 100 with equal drivers and conditions.
Beyond that, my car will beat it in handling and top-end.
American cars are made for off the line acceleration and the SRT8 has it in spades.
