Default Strange Electrical Issue

Good Day All,

Yesterday while driving home on a hot (95F) day with the A/C on, all of the sudden the A/C Blower cut out. I had it in manual and recirc and it was blowing full bore, then it just cut to nothing. I tried to turn it back on, but it seemed to cycle back and forth, never really getting up to speed before cutting out again. I rolled the windows down to cool the interior for the remainder of the ride home. When I got home, the passenger side front window refused to roll up. It makes a funny click/squeek sound, and the passenger door open light momentarily lights up.

This morning the same issue still existed. However, when trying to turn on the A/C blower, the interior lights come on momentarily and the passenger door open red light illuminates with the corresponding message, but then quickly goes out. The window still won't roll up.

Obviously this is some kind of gremlin, so I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a place to start looking for a repair. We're supposed to get thunderstorms this afternoon, so the sooner I can (at least) get the window up, the better off I'll be.

Thanks in advance!

Scott

Check battery volts after being off for 8+ hours.

Maybe try turning off - including auto-lights on stalk - everything you can then with engine running and revs at 3000 see if windows work.

The stalk can cause oddities but I don't think what you have. The worry would be if it's a chafed harness such as the one behind the front bumper.

You might try swapping relays where they are the same type in the hope it's a bad one and you can at least get window up. Handbook & Electrical Guide are both free (see stickies / Gus's site www.jagrepair.com)

Follow up with what JagV8 said.

You have all the classic signs of a weak/failing battery.

How old is the battery?

Less than a year.

Any idea which relay provides power to those circuits?

Electrical Guide is in JTIS, free download, or on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

I would be measuring the system voltage before I did anything else.

Multiple things generally don't go kaput at once. That's why JagV8 and myself are asking about battery.

Something easy is to hook up a battery charger to see if anything works better.

Dear Scott,

Much like a lone voice in the wilderness, I'm looking for guinea pigs to run a simple two minute electrical test if you're thinking of trying a new battery. Ideally we could get data before and after a battery replacement. Details and multiple reasons to mock me are here:

Default Self Resolved....

Since the car was acting up, I took it as an opputunity to take it off the road and put it into the shop for a paint job. (Faded spots on the roof and rear bumper).

Anyway, whilst there the problem with the window and blower self corrected.

Makes me think it probably is the battery.

I'll keep you all posted.

I hate those. They just lie in wait for another day.

RESOLVED

It was a loose ground from the negative terminal of the battery.
